Choosing An Avatar at Cryptologic Casinos
The persona that players may want to represent at gambling tables may be quite different from their real life ones. Online poker rooms allow players to choose their persona's through avatars. An avatar is an image or icon that displays certain characteristics and attitudes. Online poker players can download one from a set of given avatars and then it is this avatar that is seen by all the other players.

Though it is almost mandatory for poker rooms to offer avatars, online casinos rarely do so. Cryptologic is one of the only online casino software providers that allow its players to select the avatar they wish to use. This avatar will then represent their character when playing games such as blackjack or roulette at the online casino.

Above is a screenshot of what the InterCasino settings panel looks like here you can choose your avatar.

In order to select an avatar at Cryptologic online casinos, the player will first have to log in at the casino. The player then has to click on the "More Games" button. This reveals a menu box that lists the various games categories. Right at the bottom there is a tab that reads "Settings". The player has to click on this tab in order to reveal the Settings Box. The Settings Box has two parts. On the right are the check boxes for activating or deactivating the options for animations, sound effects, voices and maximized screen. On the left hand side is the setting for the avatars. Cryptologic online casinos offer several avatars to choose from. The selected avatar is shown much like a passport photograph but in 3D imaging. Players can scroll through the avatars using the "left" and "right" arrows. Once players have decided on an avatar they should leave it displayed. Then players should click the "Done" button to select the avatar. The selected avatar will then represent the player at the tables.

In all Cryptologic online casinos offer 18 avatars to choose from. A study of the avatars reveals the target area of the software developer. 9 are male and 9 are female, so the genders are equally represented. However an overwhelming majority of the avatars are of young people, implying that is mostly the young that frequent online casinos. Avatars also represent different ethnic groups. Caucasian, African and Asian avatars have been offered. Within these broad groupings there is considerable detailing. Hair colors, hair styles, facial expressions and such characteristics make each and every one of the 18 avatars unique in itself. All a player needs to do is scroll through the avatars and select one that best represents him or her and then follow the earlier given instructions to download the avatar.

3D multi-dimensional multi player games would be ideal for this sort of thing... online casinos the way I know them though to be quite frank I don't think it would be all that useful nor do I think that I'm make any significant effort to ever activate or choose an avatar like this.

An interesting concept but one that I think is far more useful in table poker games or other multi-player gaming type environments.

It is a neat idea I think that in a 3D casino if you could have a character and face that represents you that would be something pretty amazing. I think that Frank has the right idea. In that case too it could be like second life where you can customize your character, etc... would be amazing. I'd love to play an online casino like this.

I kind of like the idea of using avatars in casinos would be especially cool if the casino was a 3D based casino. Hopefully we'll see something in that realm sometime soon. I do agree with you though Perl having the ability to upload your own image of your face or something else you want to use to represent you as a person within their software would be cool... kind of how like many some of the online poker rooms out there work.

I never knew this feature existed either Charlie... I guess it's true you really do learn something new everyday. I think it would be much better if you could upload a picture of yourself or something which from the screenshot of this functionality shown above it doesn't appear as though you can.

That's an interesting concept... I never new such a thing really existed in their software. What's with the Tony Soprano looking dude in the picture above in this article, lol...

I never really understood the purpose of choosing an avatar when playing at InterCasino. I'm not really sure why they implemented avatars if you never see them. I suppose their used in their multi-layer games which I haven't really checked out even though I've been playing at Cryptologic casinos for years now.
