Always "Bet Max" in Slots
Online slots today are becoming more exciting with the constant addition of new features. But this also implies that the new features have to be understood. The new features also give the player more choices to make. In this respect the "Bet Max" button plays a very important role.

Most online slots today are of the video bonus type with multiple paylines. There is a great variance in the number of paylines offered. Say the slots game offers 20 paylines. The player can wager on 1 payline, 2 paylines right up to 20 paylines. The player can also wager a variable number of coins per payline. Usually this ranges from 1 to 5. Therefore a number of wagering options exist. The procedure in most online slots is as follows. The player first selects the paylines that he wants to wager on. Then the player clicks on the "Bet One" button to wager 1 coin on each of the chosen paylines. By clicking the "Bet One" button again he increases his wager to 2 coins per chosen payline and so on. However if he wants to wager the maximum allowable coins on all the paylines he simply clicks the "Bet Max" button.

The "Bet Max" button offers tangible advantages to the players. Many slot games today offer progressive jackpots. In most cases the progressive jackpot is valid only if the player has placed the maximum bet. Otherwise he just gets the fixed payout. In progressive jackpot slots the difference between the progressive payout and fixed payout is substantial. This is true even when the progressive payout is at the minimum level. Hence if the player hits the progressive jackpot combination and he is not on Maximum bet then he would be kicking himself.

Other situations in which the "Max Bet" button is worth its weight in gold are the scatter and bonus features. In the line combinations, only the paylines with winning combinations pay out. Therefore wagers placed on other paylines are automatically lost. However, the scatter symbols can appear anywhere on the screen in order to pay out and not necessarily on the selected paylines. Therefore the payout for scatter wins is made with reference to the total bet and not the line bet. In such cases no portion of the bet is wasted and it makes sense to use the "Max Bet" feature. Most bonus rounds are activated by specified scatter combinations. Therefore the payouts in bonus rounds are also referenced on total bets. If the player plays with maximum bet then not only will his scatter wins be large but also the bonus round wins.

The "Max Bet" button also offers another advantage, though trivial when compared to the payouts. It automatically sets the reels spinning without having to click separately on the reels.

I think it's good to use the bet max button to get the most out of your wager and so as to not miss line win combinations and more so to maximize your scatter win potentials but sometimes it's also just better to place smaller wagers but you can still bet max and bet smaller amounts. Just changing your coin denom and number of coins you play per line you can achieve this.

Bet max is good to play if you know that you're playing it sometimes I play it by accident though when I don't even intend on it as I find that the spin button and bet max button are so close together in general for most online casino software packages.

I like to bet max but not all the time. Doing so you run out of money way too quickly especially if you're playing a higher coin denomination. I guess it really comes down to how much money you have to play with online but for the most part I like to switch it up playing bet max probably about 50% of the time that I play.

Wow I'm surprised to hear how many people have actually mixed up the "Spin" and "Bet Max" buttons. They're usually so much different that it's in general very difficult to mistake the two.

I always try to bet max and I just preserve my bankroll by playing the lowest coin value. Sometimes when I'm feeling a little more risk adverse I'll bump the coin value from 0.01 to 0.05 cents per coin per line. Sometimes if you go to high though you'll drain your bankroll way too quickly so be sure to be careful.

I think that betting max whether it be that you're playing at an online casino or offline should really be based on how comfortable you are as T. Bugatto has stated. If you're a more conservative player you may want to opt for lower coin denomination value and additionally a lower number of coins bet per line. If you're more aggressive and have a larger bankroll then playing the max coins at the highest denomination may be the right strategy for you.

These are all very good comments... Although betting max can also lead to draining you money way too fast if you're not careful. Make sure that you play within your means and if you'd like to slow down the pace at which you're loosing money change the coin denomination in the slot game that you're playing (of course only if it's a multi-denomination) type slot game.

It's one of those things that you can accidentally do (ie. clicking Spin) vs. Bet Max and before you know it you hit a big win and you're only playing 1 coin / line as opposed to 10 or 20+ coins per line that Betting Max would yield. It's happened to all of us the worse is when it happens when you're in line for a big win.

I know all too well what Angie is describing I've accidentally hit spin in the past and haven't bet max coins and I hit the bonus round that is entered into via scatters as she describes above. A real bummer as I would have hit and won much larger prizes if I were playing 10 coins as opposed to 1 coin. Lesson learned for me though I always bet max now.

Betting max in slots is especially important if you hit a bonus round that is invoked by scatters. Since scatters are paid out as a multiple of your total bet it means that the prizes that are won in the bonus round are paid out at a multiple of your total bet. So when you bet max and hit bonus rounds you'll likely do pretty well.
