Polymarket U.S. has commenced beta testing of combination trades, known as 'combos,' ahead of the 2026 football season. The prediction market operator formally filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in May to self-certify what it calls Combinatorial Athletic Outcome Contracts (CAOCs). Under CFTC self-certification rules, operators can launch new contract types with minimal regulatory interference if the agency does not object within a specified timeframe.
The U.S. beta testing began earlier this month, following approximately 10 weeks after the May self-certification filing. According to early data, combos have already attracted significant trading activity, accounting for nearly 16,200 trades and north of $7.4 million in volume during August. Polymarket's platform currently allows traders to combine up to 10 legs in a single wager, mirroring traditional parlay mechanics where all legs must resolve favorably for the bet to win.
Combo functionality on Polymarket differs meaningfully from traditional sportsbooks. Traders must submit a request-for-quote (RFQ) to which a market maker responds within a specific timeframe. To take the 'no' side on some or all combo legs, traders must use Polymarket's Application Programming Interface (API) technology. This technical structure reflects the prediction market model rather than conventional betting infrastructure.
Polymarket's parlay rollout addresses a significant market gap. Industry analyst Brad Allen from Eilers & Krejcik Gaming reports that one company currently controls nearly all U.S. prediction market sports parlay volume, despite multi-leg bets accounting for a substantial share of overall prediction market activity. Recent data from Stifel analyst Jeffrey Stantial indicates U.S. prediction volume reached $49 billion last month, with sports and combos representing approximately 80% of total transactions.
The competitive landscape is intensifying around combo offerings. DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel, and Underdog, among others, are expanding their prediction market combo capabilities. Allen characterizes combo functionality as 'not a niche feature but a central product layer, and potentially the defining one in determining who captures mainstream sports PM demand.'
Polymarket's offshore platform has featured combination trading since June, providing operational experience before the U.S. beta launch. The timing of the domestic rollout aligns with the start of the 2026 football season, positioning the operator to capture significant trading volume during peak sports betting periods.
The prediction market sector continues evolving toward mainstream adoption, with combo products emerging as a key differentiator among operators. Regulatory clarity through CFTC self-certification has enabled faster product innovation, allowing platforms to test and refine offerings without lengthy approval processes. As prediction markets mature and attract broader participation, feature parity around combination betting will likely become essential competitive infrastructure.
