How CasinoAdvisor works

We provide independent data on the online casino industry. We collect information from trusted sources, normalize it, and show it to you through a clear scoring system that considers your location. This page explains how we do this and the standards we follow.

Our approach

We do not run casinos or make up ratings. Instead, we act as an analyst between the gambling industry and you. We take data from trusted sources and turn it into clear, readable information.

Three principles drive every product decision:

Aggregation over assertion

We look at what others say about an operator rather than giving our own opinion.

Country-aware by default

Rankings, bonuses, and availability are based on your location, not a one-size-fits-all global view.

Commercial neutrality

While we earn commission, this never affects a ranking, score, or recommendation. Our system is built to prevent this.

How the consensus score works

Every active casino in our index gets a score from 0 to 10. This is not just an average; it is a calculation based on independent ratings, how fresh the data is, and any known red flags.

  1. 1
Normalize each source rating to a 0-10 scale.

Different reviewers use different methods. We standardize these into a common 0-10 score before doing any calculations.

  2. 2
    Weight by source reliability.

Sources with strict safety standards carry more weight. We use official regulator records to check for integrity rather than as a rating.

  3. 3
    Apply a freshness decay.

We prioritize recent data. Older ratings have less impact, so a stale review cannot outweigh new information.

  4. 4
Add an agreement bonus or penalty.

If sources agree, we add a small bonus. If they differ significantly, we deduct points to reflect that uncertainty.

  5. 5
    Subtract red-flag penalties.

If an operator has issues like revoked licenses, unfair games, or unresolved complaints, we apply a penalty regardless of other ratings.

  6. 6
    Cap the maximum at 9.9.

We do not use a perfect 10 score. Every operator has trade-offs, and a 10 would suggest we have not found them yet.

Each casino profile shows how many sources we used, when they were last checked, and how confident we are in the score.

Safety tiers

We use a five-step label to describe safety, plus a Fresh marker for new operators. This is not just a number; it looks at licensing, complaint history, and payout reliability. Even a high-scoring site might be placed in a lower tier if it has a serious red flag.

Excellent ~9.0 - 10

Strong licensing, clean history, reliable payouts, and agreement across multiple sources.

Good ~8.0 - 8.9

A reliable operator with a solid track record and no major concerns.

Fair ~6.5 - 7.9

Acceptable but mixed. Ratings may vary, the history might be uneven, or the licensing is less stringent.

Poor ~5.0 - 6.5

Weak overall. Be cautious and read the full profile before you deposit. Sources may be negative, or the licensing might offer little protection.

Avoid < 5.0

Serious issues found. This includes unfair games, lost licenses, or unresolved player complaints. We list these for information but recommend against signing up.

Fresh New

A brand-new operator with no history yet. This is for information only. Check back later once there is enough data to judge them properly.

Country-aware analysis

Gambling laws vary by country. An operator that works well in one place might be restricted in another.

We model this by tracking acceptance, rankings, and bonus terms for every country. When you visit our site, you see data that is relevant to where you are, rather than a generic view that might not apply to you.

Editorial integrity

Independence is why this site is useful. If our rankings were for sale, our data would be worthless. Our system ensures no one can manipulate the rules.

We do

  • Publish the same data on every operator regardless of commercial relationship.
  • Disclose every link that earns a commission with rel="sponsored nofollow".
  • Route every outbound click through a first-party redirect we own, so the link target is auditable.
  • Show the operators country acceptance and bonus availability honestly, even when restrictive.
  • Flag closed and rebrand-redirected operators so users do not land on dead brands.
  • Update profiles on a regular cadence and surface the last-update timestamp.

We will not

  • Boost an operator in rankings because we earn more commission from them.
  • Suppress negative ratings, complaint history, or licensing issues.
  • Surface affiliate-exclusive offers tied to identifiers we are not licensed to redistribute.
  • Publish fabricated user reviews or astroturf community sentiment.
  • Suppress responsible gambling messaging for conversion optimization.
  • Hide that an operator is restricted in a given country to push a signup anyway.

AI in our content

We sometimes use AI to help draft content. However, we hold it to the same standard as human writing: every claim must be backed by data. We filter source material before the AI sees it, and our AI Advisor only uses our own structured data rather than guessing.

If a question is outside our data, it will say so rather than speculating.

Affiliate disclosure

Some "Visit Casino" buttons use affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you sign up and deposit through them. We are transparent about this because you should know how a free service stays running.

Affiliate status never affects rankings or scores. Our scoring system cannot see the affiliate data, and every operator is treated the same. If we do not have an affiliate partnership with a casino, the link goes directly to their website. We never hide or demote direct links.

Every outbound click goes through our own redirect so we can audit destinations.

Data freshness

We update operator data regularly. Listing information and country rankings are updated often, while full profiles are updated on a longer schedule. Every profile shows the date of the last update.

As data gets older, its weight in our scoring system decreases, and operators with no recent activity are marked as low-confidence.

What we will not do

To maintain trust, we have strict rules on what we will never do:

  • We will not publish fake user reviews or astroturf community discussion.
  • We will not let bot-generated AI personas pretend to be human commentators.
  • We will not let affiliate revenue, advertiser pressure, or operator outreach influence rankings.
  • We will not surface bonus offers tied to a source identifier we are not licensed to redistribute.
  • We will not hide that an operator is restricted in a country in order to push a signup.
  • We will not strip responsible gambling messaging for conversion uplift.
  • We will not add an operator to the dataset purely because a commercial deal is on the table.

Responsible gambling

Gambling can be addictive. We are an information platform, not a gambling service. Only play at licensed operators in your country, never bet money you cannot afford to lose, and see winnings as a bonus, not an income.

If gambling is causing problems, support is available. The footer of every page links to independent help resources for your country.

Frequently asked

Why does the same operator have a different score in different markets?
Bonuses, regulatory records, and complaint patterns differ by market. Our data is country-scoped, so the read you see reflects the operator in your jurisdiction, not a generic global view.
Why is no operator scored above 9.9?
Every operator has trade-offs. A 10 would imply one is flawless, and we do not believe that exists. The cap is an editorial choice to show that perfection is a fiction.
Do you write your own casino reviews?
We aggregate multi-source data with our own editorial framing and analysis. Where AI drafts the prose, it uses our structured operator records, not open-web scraping, and we hold it to the same standard as a human writer.
Can a casino pay to rank higher?
No. Affiliate status is invisible to the scoring engine. The system makes ranking manipulation impossible without changing core code, and every change is auditable.
What happens if you make a mistake?
We fix it. If data is wrong, we re-crawl. If a score is incorrect, we recompute. Mistakes happen in a dataset this size, but we believe in being open about them.
How do I report a problem with a casino profile?
Use the contact form and select "Data correction". Include the operator name or link and explain what is wrong. We look into every report we can verify.

Questions about our methodology, or something on this page that needs correcting? Send us a message via the contact form. We read everything that comes through.
