Ocean Casino Resort announced a significant capital investment in its VIP gaming infrastructure with a $14 million transformation of The Cove, the property's exclusive high-limit slot lounge reserved for top-tier rewards members. The expansion will relocate The Cove to an 11,935-square-foot space positioned between the Asian Table Games Area and High-Limit Table Games room, increasing machine capacity from approximately 140 slots to 192 gaming units. The redesigned space, scheduled to open in early 2027, will feature ocean-inspired interior design and new seating areas intended to deliver what management describes as a "sophisticated and distinctly Ocean experience."

The Cove represents a critical component of Ocean's broader VIP strategy. Access is tiered by membership level and day of week, with Reserve, Prime, and Preferred Ocean Rewards cardholders eligible Sunday through Thursday, while Friday and Saturday access is limited to Reserve and Prime members. A key operational feature is the lounge's "Self-Pay" jackpot system, which allows players to automatically have payouts up to $39,999 funded to their account balance without interruption, streamlining the cash-out process for high-volume players.

This investment in premium gaming space complements Ocean's existing luxury offerings. The property operates The Loft, a 2,000-square-foot private gaming suite on the 44th floor with floor-to-ceiling Atlantic Ocean views, accessible by invitation only and staffed with dedicated butler service and personal security. The dual-track approach to VIP amenities reflects a deliberate market positioning aimed at capturing and retaining Atlantic City's highest-value customers.

Ocean's capital deployment occurs against a backdrop of strong operational performance. Through August 2026, the property reported gross gaming revenue of $329.9 million, representing a 5.4 percent year-over-year increase and ranking third among Atlantic City casinos behind Borgata ($556.7 million) and Hard Rock ($376.4 million). Ocean was one of only three Atlantic City properties to achieve positive GGR growth during the period, suggesting that its VIP-focused strategy is resonating in a competitive market.

The timing of this expansion follows Ocean's acquisition by the Ilitch family in June 2026, which established Ilitch Gaming as a dedicated casino holding company. The Ilitch portfolio now encompasses Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit, and Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in Mississippi, positioning the ownership group as a multi-state regional operator. The Cove investment signals that the Ilitch family intends to pursue aggressive growth and modernization at Ocean despite broader industry headwinds.

High-limit slot lounges have become increasingly important in regional casino markets as operators seek to maximize revenue per square foot and customer lifetime value. The expansion of machine capacity by approximately 37 percent reflects confidence that premium demand in Atlantic City can absorb additional inventory at The Cove. Whether this supply addition translates to proportional revenue growth will be an important metric to monitor in Ocean's 2027 quarterly reports.
