Super Group's Betway has secured a major sports marketing commitment with Manchester United, establishing itself as the club's official principal partner and exclusive global betting partner from the 2026-27 season onwards. According to reporting from the New York Times, the agreement is valued at over £18 million, positioning it among football's most expensive single-partner sponsorship deals.
The partnership represents a significant escalation in Betway's sports marketing strategy. The operator previously held a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with West Ham United that concluded in 2025. Beyond Manchester United, Betway maintains sponsorship relationships with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City, demonstrating the operator's sustained commitment to Premier League visibility. The new Manchester United deal surpasses these existing arrangements in scale and investment.
Under the agreement's terms, Betway's branding will feature prominently on training kits for both the men's and women's teams, as well as on signage at Old Trafford stadium and Manchester United's training facility, the Progress with Unity Stadium. Notably, Betway's logo will not appear on the front of match shirts beginning with the 2026-27 season, due to the Premier League's incoming voluntary front-of-shirt sponsorship ban for betting operators.
Marc Armstrong, Manchester United's chief business officer, framed the deal as validation of the club's commercial expansion and global market position. Neal Menashe, chief executive of Super Group, highlighted the strategic alignment between Betway's market priorities and Manchester United's global fanbase, particularly in Africa. He emphasized the value of association with the Premier League, described as the world's most-watched domestic football competition.
The partnership will incorporate fan engagement activations, providing supporters with access to exclusive competitions and experiences. This approach mirrors recent initiatives by other Premier League clubs adapting to the sponsorship restrictions, including Aston Villa's deal with Winvia Entertainment launched simultaneously, which includes an official club prize draw.
From a competitive positioning standpoint, this deal underscores the ongoing significance of sports sponsorship within iGaming operators' customer acquisition and brand development strategies. As regulatory environments tighten around betting operator visibility in football, partnerships structured around training kit placement and stadium activations represent evolving adaptations to compliance requirements. The front-of-shirt ban, which takes effect in the 2026-27 season, is reshaping how operators value and structure football partnerships. Betway's willingness to commit over £18 million under these constraints suggests operators continue viewing Premier League exposure as essential to maintaining market relevance and accessing global audiences, particularly in high-growth regions like Africa. The partnership demonstrates how operators are repositioning marketing investments toward alternative touchpoints as traditional sponsorship avenues narrow.
