Understanding Online Casino Tournaments

Most online casinos offer tournaments for their players. Some casinos offer many daily online tournaments throughout the month. Other online casinos offer tournaments as parts of promotions once in a while. New online players tend to give casino tournaments a skip because the tournaments are formatted and played in a different manner than the regular casino games. By doing so they are losing out not only on winning opportunities but also on the excitement that these online tournaments offer. There are types and types of online tournaments. This article discusses two broad types. The first type is in which the winners are decided by how much they have won and the second type is in which the winners are decided by how much they have wagered.

In the first type of online tournament all participating players are given the same amount of tournament chips to start with. They are also given a specified time period in which they have to wager and try to increase their chip balance as much as they can. At the end of the allotted time the game automatically closes and their score is recorded. Players can use their allotted time any time during the tournament period. At the end of the tournament period the players with the highest scores share the prize. Players cannot cash the tournament chips given to them not can they cash their winnings. The only amount that they can get is a share of the prize. Usually the players are informed in advance as to the amount of the prize pool and how it will be distributed.

The online tournaments described above have certain characteristics. All players wager on the same game so as to ensure uniformity. The players do not have to pay for the chips that they are given at the start of the tournament. Their only liability is the entrance fee for participation. This is known as a buy in and is usually a nominal amount. Many such tournaments do not have any buy ins and players can participate for free. Such online tournaments are known as freerolls. Though the tournament may run for the full day or a number of days, the player's participation is restricted to the time allotted to him. This time is usually not more than sixty minutes.

In the second type of online tournament the players who wager the most amounts share the prize pool. In such tournaments winning or losing is of no consequence. Players are not given any chips from the online casino but wager with their own funds. They are not allotted any specific time but can wager throughout the tournament period. At the end of the tournament period the prizes are awarded to the players who have wagered the most. In these tournaments the players get to keep the amounts that they have won and if they are on top in the leader board they also get a share of the prize pool. These online tournaments may be played on the same game or a range of games specified by the online casino. There is no buy in involved because the players are wagering with their own money. Players who usually participate in these tournaments are players who would anyway be wagering significant amounts. Such players are known as high rollers. The hope of sharing the prize pool is an added attraction. This type of online tournament is not usually held on a daily basis but as a part of a special promotion.

Both types of tournaments offer a lot of fun and excitement. Players can choose which type of tournament they prefer based on their bankrolls, skill levels, interests and objectives.

I've begun playing in more tournaments. I find it just as fun if not more fun then playing the games just solo. I find that you actually feel like you have a purpose when you play in slots tournaments online which I don't really find all that much when just playing a slot game on it's own.

Online casino tournaments are fairly easy to understand. You register or enter, you pay the entry fee if there is one, you play, you try to win... if you don't place you try again next time if you do win you stop playing cash out your winnings and go buy something nice for yourself :) At least this is my philosophy and view on online slots tournaments
