American Roulette Wheel - The American Roulette wheel has an additional slot making it 38 slots. This additional slot is the double zero, not found on the European wheel. The house edge for this game is 5.4 percent.

Column Bet - With this bet you are wagering on 12 numbers. It is an outside bet that pays 2 to 1.

Corner Bet - This bet is an inside bet in which you are placing the chip on four numbers, i.e. where four lines intersect on the grid. It will pay 8 to 1.

Dozen Bet - The dozen bet is also on twelve numbers as an outside bet in which you bet on four rows rather than a column of 12 numbers. This bet will payout 2 to 1 like the Column Bet.

European Roulette Wheel - On a European Wheel you have 37 numbers and no double zero. The house edge is smaller on this bet at 2.7 percent compared to American Roulette.

Even Bet - This is a bet placed on the even numbers on the table only if it pays out 1:1.

Five-Number Bet - The American Roulette Wheel is the only place you can have this bet- it is when you bet on the 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. You will find the payout is 6:1.

French Roulette Wheel - This is the European style wheel.

High Bet - This bet is placed when you bet on a number between 19 and 36. It will payout 1 to1.

House Edge/Advantage - The house advantage is what the casino has over you and is based on a mathematical calculation.

Inside Bet - a bet placed on the grid of the table, usually a specific number or set of numbers, with higher payouts.

Layout - a term for the grid on the Roulette table.

Line Bet - This is when you bet on six numbers in the grid, where one of the numbers will be the winner. It is an inside bet with a payout of 5 to 1. The six numbers are in two rows.

Low Bet - This is a bet on one number from 1 to 18. It pays the same as the high bet.

Martingale System - This is a betting system in which you double your bet every time you lose. In other words if you bet $5 dollars and lost the next round you would bet $10 to recoup your losses.

Odd Bet - You will bet on the odd numbers on the table with a payout of 1 to1.

Outside Bet - This is a bet on the outside of the grid; it is usually labeled with words and on the edge of the table or below the columns. It allows for more than one number to be played with a payout of 1 to1 or 2 to 1 depending.

Quarter Bet - This is a four number bet in which one of the numbers will win, see corner bet for more details.

Red or Black Bet - You will wager on 18 numbers of either black or red persuasion. The bet is an outside bet for even money.

Split Bet - You have placed the bet on the line between two numbers in which the winner must be one of the two for a payout of 17 to 1.

Straight Up Bet - On this bet you will place your chip on one number. The payout is 35 to 1. The odds are against you on this bet.

Street Bet - It is a bet in which three numbers are wagered on for the winning number; it can also be referred to as a trio bet. Normally you place the chip at the end of the row you are wagering on. The reward is 11 to 1 for the win.

Zero - You have a green number that is either a single or double zero, this is not bet on in the game, except for the five number bet in American roulette. You will not be betting if you place the chip on the zero or double zero like a straight bet.
