Germany fines rapper Capital Bra €250,000 for promoting illegal gambling

Germany's federal gambling regulator GGL has issued a €250,000 administrative fine against rapper Capital Bra for repeatedly promoting unlicensed online gambling operators across his social-media channels.

The artist published livestreams and videos showing his own play at unlicensed sites, ran banner ads for illegal operators, and operated a comparison site listing unlicensed gambling offerings. The legal basis is § 5 Abs. 7 of the Glücksspielstaatsvertrag 2021 (the German interstate gambling treaty), which prohibits advertising for illegal gambling.

The GGL opened proceedings in October 2025. After Capital Bra failed to respond to hearings and cease-and-desist notices, the authority served the fine at a concert in Wiesbaden with police assistance.

GGL board member Ronald Benter framed the action: "We do not shy away from well-known names. Whoever advertises illegal gambling must reckon with consistent regulatory action."

The case is notable for two reasons. First, the German enforcement framework has been steadily widening its scope - earlier action concentrated on operators; this case targets a public figure platforming them. Second, the €250k figure is substantial for an individual respondent (versus operator fines, which routinely run into the millions).
