Mostly all online slot games function with one payout table. In some slot games a different and more attractive payout table is used in the free spins bonus round. But the leading online casino software provider WagerWorks offers some slot games in which two different payout tables are used in every spin. This feature has been given the name Multiway. Treasures of Troy and White Orchid are popular WagerWorks Multiway slot games.
The Multiway slot games are uniquely structured. They are five reel video slot games but they have four rows across the reels. What makes them unique is that each reel does not spin together as in normal slot games but each symbol position is an independent reel. Therefore the same symbol can appear in multiple positions on each reel. This leads to more frequent payouts, especially if the symbol is the wild symbol. In the default setting the 40 payline payout table is used. Players can wager with up to 40 paylines activated, with the stops being 1, 10, 20, 30 and 40. Players can wager up to five coins per payline. This is referred to as Bet Multiplier on the screen. The coin size is fixed at one credit. If players wager in this mode they will use only the default payout table, that pays when three or more like symbols appear from left to right on an enabled payline only.
Players who have activated all 40 paylines can go one step further if they want to. But it would be pointless wagering on Multiway slot games unless this feature is enabled. This additional step is that by doubling the bet players can activate all paylines, which will not pay as per the default payout table but only as per a second special Multiway payout table. Since there are four rows on the reels the Multiway works out to 1024 ways. This Multiway payout tables pays when 4 or 5 like symbols appear left to right in any position on the reels. When there are multiple like symbols in the same reel that satisfy the above condition then the payouts are multiplied. For example if the payout for 5 of a certain symbol in the Multiway payout table is 100. And if that symbol appears twice on the first reel, thrice on the third reel and once on every other reel, then the Multiway payout would be six times (2x3) the stated payout of 100.
The payouts from both tables are determined independently and then added together. If a number of payouts occur in each table it can get difficult to figure out how the total payout is calculated. One way is to simply accept the payouts given and move on. For those who want to know the details WagerWorks highlights the payouts line by line. But this moves so fast that new players would not be able to follow it through. One interesting aspect is that the Multiway slot games indicate the Multiway payouts with a "shower". In White Orchid it is a shower of green leaves and in Treasures of Troy it is a shower of gold coins.
The Multiway slot games offer a free spins bonus round. The payouts in the tables used in the free spins are identical to the payouts in the tables used in the normal spins. However a few of the symbols are different. This makes at best a visual impact, but technically the Multiway slot games have four different payout tables. The Multiway slot games can be played at Virgin Casino.
