Video Poker Banking Mechanisms

As in other online casino games when wagers are placed in video poker games the player's balance with the casino decreases and when payouts are received the player's balance increases. However different software providers use slightly different mechanisms for carrying out these operations.

Online casino software providers like Microgaming and Playtech employ the usual mechanism that is used in other casino games. The player's balance with the casino is reflected in the video poker game being played. After the player selects the betting options and clicks the Deal button the total wagered amount is deducted from the balance. Suppose the player is playing a 10 hand video poker game and selects a coin size of $0.10 and 4 coins per hand the total amount wagered is $4. The moment the player clicks the Deal button his balance is reduced by $4. This amount is then irretrievable. The player has to choose the cards to hold and click the Draw button. Suppose the player draws a blank in all hands his balance remains the same. If the player receives a payout of $20 and clicks the Collect button his casino balance increases by $20. If the player wants to continue playing he can click the Deal button instead of the Collect button. Then two transactions are given effect simultaneously. The winnings of $20 are added and the wager of $4 is deducted from the player's balance. Hence a net deduction of $16 will be made.

Online casino software providers like Realtime Gaming employ the mechanism used in land based slot machines. Though the player's casino balance is displayed on the screen, wagers cannot be placed using that balance. Players have to purchase coins and feed it to the video poker game. Suppose the player purchases coins worth $25 then the casino balance is decreased by $25. If the player has selected a coin size of $0.01 then he is credited with 2500 coins, which is shown in the Credits cell. If the player changes his mind and does not want to play he can click the Cashout button and retrieve the funds in his casino account.

Suppose the player is wagering on a 100 hand game and wagers 1 coin per hand, his credit will decrease by 100 coins. Once he clicks the Deal button the 100 coins wagered get committed. Suppose he wins 85 coins his credit will increase by 85 coins. The combined effect if both transactions will leave him with a credit of 2485 coins. During this process his casino balance is unchanged. The amount wagered and the amount won do not affect the casino balance. The casino balance changes only when coins are purchased or cash outs made. If the player loses all the coins then he will not be permitted to wager unless he purchases more coins. The appropriate value will be reduced from his casino balance at that time. When the player has finished wagering he can click the Cashout button and the coins standing in his balance will be converted to credits and will be added to his casino balance.
