Understanding Microgaming Super Fun 21

Super Fun 21 is an online blackjack variant available at Microgaming online casinos like Platinum Play, All Slots and Golden Riviera. It is available as a Gold Series game that offers an elegant playing area and features like strategy card and auto play. In Super Fun 21, several of the blackjack rules are modified to give actual or notional advantage to the player. To compensate for this player blackjack pays only even money instead of the usual 3 to 2. As a result, the average return to the player is marginally less than 99%. It is not an online blackjack variant that should be on your favorites list. But, as the name suggests, you can play it once in a while for super fun.

First let us look at the rules that are on par with standard blackjack variants. Super Fun 21 is a hole card game and the dealer peeks for blackjack on ten value cards and aces. Dealer must hit on a soft 17. You can split up to three times to make four hands. You may double down after a split.

Then let us look at the rules that genuinely give the player an advantage. Microgaming Super Fun 1 is played with one standard deck. It is well established that the return to the player increases as the number of decks decreases. So, single deck games are the best. You may double on any number of cards. You may take late surrender on any number of cards. Double down rescue option is available, which can come in use. For example, if you double on a ten value hand against a dealer’s ace and are dealt a five or a six, this option is great to have. Player blackjack beats dealer blackjack. Then there are some bonuses offered without any additional wager, provided no double down is used. Six or more cards totaling 20 or less automatically wins. Five or more cards totaling 21 points pay 2 to 1 instantly. A player blackjack in diamonds pays 2 to 1.

The following rules give only a notional advantage and are not of any real benefit. You can re-split aces up to four hands. Normally aces can be split only once. Re-splitting aces gives an advantage, but the opportunity is unlikely to arise in a single deck game, so the benefit is unlikely to be of any value. You can split unlike ten value cards. Optimum blackjack strategy says that ten pair must never be split, so this option is meaningless.
