The Top Mistakes Made by Video Poker Fans

Video poker can be a fairly complicated game when you get down to the details of strategy and how to play really difficult situations. However, the fact of the matter is that most of the big mistakes made by fans of the genre aren't all that complicated. Instead, it's usually due to some basic misunderstanding of the importance of some part of the game. We want to clear up some of these misunderstandings by presenting you with the top mistakes made by video poker fans and the simple steps that you can take to avoid falling into these traps.

The first big mistake has to do with game selection. Some online casinos can have 20 types of video poker or more, and you might be tempted to just pick the one that looks the most interesting to you at the moment. However, you should actually do a little research on the payout rates of the games first to narrow it down to a list of the best eight to 10 games available. While you'll still have plenty of titles to choose from, you'll avoid playing the games that have the worst payouts of the bunch, and this will save you a lot of money.

The second big mistake that we see video poker players making is not focusing on games that are easy to learn how to play. If you want to dive into the complexities of Deuces and Joker wild, one of the most complicated forms of video poker out there, then feel free. However, if you're just looking to play a little video poker while maximizing your chances of having a solid winning session, then you'll want to play games where it's easier to play an effective strategy. Along these lines, you'll want to avoid wild card games except for standard kings or better Joker Poker.

Our third top mistake, and something that people should really know better about at this point, is playing with fewer than five coins in a game. Listen, we understand that you don't necessarily want to play for $5 per hand. If this is the case, then move to a different machine with smaller coin sizes that allow you to play for all five coins without stretching your bankroll. You'll get a much higher payout rate by doing so, and this maximizes your chances of winning.
