The Three Habits of Expert Video Poker Players

Video poker is a very difficult game to master because even though the general principles apply to all games, the precise discards to make in a lot of spots change from game to game. Being able to make these adjustments on the fly is extremely difficult, and every missed adjustment is money that you're losing over the long run. There are certain habits that expert players make, however, that can make precise adjustments easier to make in the games you're playing. Here we're going to share three of these habits that can help you with your game.

The first habit is that video poker players tend to focus only on the best one or two games that are available to them at any given time. They judge which game is best by two factors. First, they look at what the expected payout rate is for perfect play in each game, and then they look at how complicated the games are and what their chances will be to make mistakes. They use these two pieces of information to decide which game they will be playing. Sometimes the game with the highest return isn't the best pick because the right strategy is too difficult to learn and will lead to big mistakes.

The second habit is that these players put a lot of time and effort into studying and preparing to play the game that they have chosen. It's not like these players just log into an online casino and start playing extremely well from the beginning. It takes a lot of work to get to that point, and all of that work comes before the actual playing. When you're starting out taking video poker seriously, you should actually be studying more than you play by a serious margin.

Finally, we have the third habit of expert video poker players. These players know that in the long run in most cases, they will lose because the payout rates of the games they're playing are less than 100 percent. The deficit can be made extremely small with video poker, sometimes lower than 0.5 percent, but something has to be done to make up the difference. This is why expert video poker players never play a single hand unless they are getting comp points that they can trade in for cash while working on bonuses that are also cashable.
