Ever since Microgaming announced the Grand Slam of Slots online tournament on July 1 the industry has been talking about little else. The event has its own profile on Facebook and is actively followed on Twitter. Over the past three and a half months almost every Microgaming online casino has been hosting online tournaments or other promotions offering free entries to the Grand Slam of Slots. Fortune Lounge online casinos like Platinum Play and 7 Sultans and Jackpot Factory online casinos like All Slots have taken the lead. Other online casinos that have offered promotions include Ladbrokes and 32Red. It has been estimated that over 9000 free entries have been won for this mega event.

The much awaited D-Day is now close at hand. The Grand Slam of Slots will finally commence on October 22. The online tournament will run for nine days and end on November 2. Those who have not qualified can buy their entries for €150. This may appear steep but is not, considering that a prize pool of €1.3 million is at stake. Of this €1 million will go to the first place winner of the event. Though there have been online tournaments offering million plus prize pools, this is the first one to offer a million to a single winner. Online players may recall that Microgaming had created history with the first ever million dollar payout on a progressive slot. Now it is set to do the same with an online tournament.

The prize pool in the Grand Slam of Slots runs deep. A total of 482 players will win prizes. The second place winner will get €50,000. The fifth place winner will get €7,500. Players in the 251st to the 450th places will get €100 each. There are 32 lucky special prizes of €1,000 each for players finishing in designated positions. The last of these is the 8,328th position. Therefore a lucky player can end up somewhere at the bottom of the leader board and yet win as much as a player who finishes on the 21st position.

The Grand Slam of Slots will be played on Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword. Players will get 9000 starting credits and one hour in which to multiply them. Unlimited rebuys will be allowed at €20 each. Tomb Raider is based on the Lara Croft theme. Lara Croft has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the "most successful human video game heroine". On November 2 the online gaming industry will have its first online tournament millionaire.

Looks like the tournament is over now and some lucky winner has walked away 1M richer. It wasn't actually Rick H who was holding the #1 spot in terms of coins won during the tournament. There was lots of great prizes that were awarded throughout this tournament. I'm really impressed with the whole thing actually!

I got a ticked and entry into the tournament and was playing all day today and to be honest I'm not thinking I'm going to win. At the time the leader Rick H had 73595 in coins and the most I had playing was 21809 and I was somewhere in the 900th place, lol... So with that said I don't think I'll make it into position to come out a real winner here!

Good luck everyone I've unfortunately haven't make the qualifiers for the tournament but if you have best of luck and I hope you get the big win would certainly be nice to hit a million dollar win!

It really is an impressive prize pool that's been offered for this tournament not only the 1 million eur prize but the fact that there is a 1.3 million prize pool in total as well.

The fact that the first place finisher in this tournament can walk away with 1.0 Million euros is amazing. I think that this tournament will go down in history as one of the biggest online casino tournaments. Certainly if Vegas were to get involved the kind of tournaments that they would run would definitely dwarf this tournament but that is still some time away!
