Strategy for Playing Blackjack

In Blackjack as with any game you need a strategy for approach. This doesn't necessarily mean you have the secret to winning 100 percent of the games. Instead it is your own strategy based on what is important to you during the game play. You must first accept that you will lose a certain amount of the time. When you learn the probabilities of certain hands or cards appearing to make that hand you have a better chance of seeing what is coming next, but remember everything is random, even the shuffle. So for blackjack what you really need to do is know what you need to do when you have a specific hand. There are two types of hands; the hard or soft. These hands will tell you about the ace. In a soft hand you have the possibility of counting the ace as a one or an eleven. Most of the time it depends on the other card in that hand.

For example if you have a jack, ten, or high then you would have 21. If you had two aces you would count them as a total of 2 or otherwise you would bust. Knowing the hands is not the only thing you should be concerned about though. How you approach the table and stay at a table is just as important as your hand strategy. It is in itself a type of strategy.

Here is how it works:

  • You will approach the table with a certain amount in your bankroll. This is what you are prepared to use for the bets.
  • Most of us decide before hand that we do not want to lose a certain percentage of that bankroll. A good rule of thumb is to stop playing the game when you have lost 40 percent of the bankroll you brought.
  • You also need to determine how much per round you wish to place for the bet. This should be a percentage based on the number of rounds you will play. Say you have two hours to gamble and in that two hours you know you can play ten games. Your bankroll starts out at 50 dollars. To play ten rounds you can only bet $5 per round.
  • You also need to state that you are not going to bet any of your winnings. In other words you want to make 60 percent in winnings. Once you reach that or if you reach that amount the game should be over. If you still want to play then you start with a new bankroll. All of the winnings go into your pocket. You will at least have that much left at the end of the play.
  • You should also avoid playing the insurance. The insurance odds are against you and a poor strategy. You want to bet on the round and what will allow you to win the most. This means a steady bet that is unwavering. If you are losing during play then you need to leave the table.
