Spin3 is the mobile gaming solutions arm of the leading online gaming software provider Microgaming. It has announced the launch of a new interactive lottery system for mobile and online players called LottoSpin. The LottoSpin platform is powered by Microgaming. It will be offered to players across the globe, including the United State on a state-by-state basis through a partnership with Pulse Interactive. It comes with a range of games that the client gaming operators can offer to their users. Bettors can collect their winnings on more than 2,000 mobile devices including the popular iPhone and BlackBerry.

Though LottoSpin is not the first interactive lottery system for mobile users, it is innovative and unique. In an interview to eGaming Review Matti Zinder, the head of Spin3, explained the difference between LottoSpin and earlier systems. He said that the earlier systems used texting technology, whereas LottoSpin uses the more advanced graphic based system. The Spin3 system employs location based transaction approval technology to prevent tickets from being bought in non-regulated jurisdictions. Personal player information is secured using Spin3’s SpinLoc system. No sensitive information is stored on any handset at any time.

Spin3 is looking at the United States as one of its main target markets for LottoSpin. Zinder is of the opinion that "one of the first areas where egaming will be regulated in the US will be the state lotteries." It has been exciting work for Spin3 to provide this on mobile phones and fortunately the potential customers that Spin3 is talking to are finding it equally exciting. Zinder stopped short of mentioning names, but he did say that there are two big deals in the offing in the American and global markets. These clients had provided detailed instructions on the specifications of the final system and Spin3 had designed the products to match these instructions.

The interview inevitably moved to the online casino of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation at the PlayNow web site. This was the first online casino run by a government owned agency in North America. The site had to close down within a day of opening because of a security breach. When the re-launch will take place is now uncertain. Zinder gave his opinion on this fiasco. He said, "You have to do things on a secure and very robust platform or you’re going to run into problems like that. This should serve as a lesson not to jump into these half-baked solutions before testing them and making sure the system itself is able to stand it."
