Special Strategies for Microgaming's Single Deck Blackjack

Microgaming's single-deck blackjack game is one of the best blackjack games on the Internet. They offer special rules that give you a chance to get some pretty crazy payout rates if you play well. You can actually get the house advantage down to less than 0.1 percent if you play correctly, and a big part of getting it down this low is using special strategies that only work in single-deck games. One of the main rules that you'll need to be aware of is that the dealer does not peek for blackjack, so you have to be more conservative when playing against a dealer ten or ace when it comes to doubling and splitting since you stand to automatically lose the double bet if the dealer has a blackjack.

One of the important differences that comes up in a single-deck game is how you play certain combinations that give you 12 or 13. Consider the following for when you're facing weak dealer cards of six and lower. If you have a ten and a two for 12, then you should hit against a two, three, four or six. However, if you've made 12 from a nine and a three, then you should only hit agains twos and threes. Moreover, if you have an eight and a four, or a five and a seven, then you should only hit with a two as the dealer's door card. Additionally, you should never hit against any cards six or lower when you have a total of 13 unless you are facing a two and have a ten and a three. In that case, you should hit instead of standing.

If you're facing a possible blackjack, then you have to be pretty conservative. There's a blackjack maxim that you should always split pocket eights instead of playing the weak total of 16. However, in this game, that's not always the case. You should just hit instead if you're facing a ten or ace. Similarly, you should never double if you're facing a ten or ace. The potential blackjacks really swing these situations in the house's favor, and they catch a lot of people who don't know the correct strategies who play on auto-pilot and double and split in these types of scenarios. It's a pretty tricky thing to pick up on, but that's why expert players do so well: They pay close attention to the specific rules of the game that they are playing.
