Player Refuses Jackpot Win

It is perhaps the first story ever of an online casino player refusing to accept a progressive jackpot payout. The ingredients of the plot were Jackpot City online casino - a Belle Rock group brand, a player of Chinese origin identified only as Mr. C, the Microgaming progressive jackpot online slot game WowPot and a jackpot prize of an unusual amount of £4,444. The Chinese are very superstitious when it comes to numerology. In the Chinese language the number 4 is pronounced like the word for death making it the most inauspicious number. And what can be worse than four 4s. Therefore Mr. C has contacted the customer support staff at Jackpot City online casino and explained his reservations to them that accepting the reward may be a harbinger of death and bring some misfortune to him or his family. At the same time he does not want to lose out on the payout, because though not running into millions £4,444 is a lot of money.

The spokesman for Jackpot City online casino, Terry Maverick, confirmed this. He added, "We're still talking to the player and working out the best approach to handle this, which is sensitive to the player's beliefs and concerns, but ensures that he does not lose out on his winnings."

It is conceivable that had the Chinese player won £888 he would have been overjoyed. This is because in Chinese the number 8 is pronounced like the word for good fortune. Therefore many slot games with Chinese themes have fixed jackpot payouts of numbers made up using the digit 8, such as 8,888 or 888 or 88. Year of Fortune slot game from Realtime Gaming is an example.

The WowPot online progressive slot never pays out those life changing amounts like some of the other Microgaming progressives do, but it hits very frequently. In the last 365 days it has hit 45 times at an average interval of 8 days for an average amount of 16,000 credits. Hence the current hit is small even in comparison to what WowPot usually offers. How this issue is ultimately resolved may never be known in the public domain. One suggestion has been that the player accepts his winnings in another currency.

Meanwhile there has been some additional news on the $4.1 million hit on Mega Moolah about two weeks ago. A press release from Microgaming has stated, "Microgaming confirms that the jackpot was hit on the 29th August by a lucky Spin Palace Casino player, and is the largest Microgaming powered progressive jackpot win for 2010." The Spin Palace winners list reveals that the lucky player is from Australasia but the name has yet not been made public.
