Vide a press release on May 20 from Atlantic City, New Jersey, the details of the 15th annual East Coast Gaming Congress were announced. The two day event will be held on May 23 and May 24 at the Atlantic City Convention Center. The East Coast Gaming Congress is organized and produced by Spectrum Gaming Group, an independent research and professional services firm, Cooper Levenson, Attorneys at Law, and SOSH Architects.

Online gambling will definitely be a point of focus at the conference. Despite the recent seizure of the online poker rooms by the US federal authorities most Americans still believe that it is a question of when, and not whether, online gambling will be legalized. The issue that has split the online gambling community in the United States is whether the legalization and regulation process will take place at the federal level or at the states level. Some experts opine that both the federal and the states governments will be involved. The press release states, "Whichever model is implemented, legalization brings with it myriad legal, regulatory and operational questions."

The East Coast Gaming Congress will include a panel discussion titled "Internet Gambling: The Game Changer". The session is sponsored by Global Gaming Business and Gene Johnson, senior associate for market research at Spectrum Gaming Group will moderate the panel. Four nationally recognized industry experts will address myriad questions related to online gambling in the United States. These featured panel speakers are Melanie Brenner, President of US Online Gaming Association; Richard "Skip" Bronson, Chairman of US Digital Gaming; Honorable John Burzichelli, New Jersey State Assembly and Jan Jones, Senior Vice President Communications/Government Relations of Caesars Entertainment.

The East Coast Gaming Congress has always been a big event for the online gaming industry. In the present context of uncertainty, more than 600 gaming operators, equipment manufacturers, regulators, attorneys, architects, analysts, public officials, investors and other gaming-related professionals are expected to attend the congress. The event will kick off with an evening reception at The Pool at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City. In addition to the online gambling issues, several land casino gambling issues will also be discussed. The economic condition of the land casinos in Atlantic City is also not very good. The full conference schedule and other details are available at the East Coast Gaming Congress web site.

That the East Coast Gaming Congress is being held in New Jersey is not without significance. Till late last year New Jersey was being hailed as possibly the first American jurisdiction to have legalization and regulation of online gambling. However the governor vetoed the online gambling bill on the last day despite the bill having passed the state assembly and senate.
