1. Online Casinos: Where to Begin

What is the process involved in downloading casino software?

Although this may seem like an arduous task, it is really not that difficult. Almost every online casino will have downloading and installation instructions for the casino client that will clearly direct your actions every step of the way. It is so easy in fact that the only the only choice on your part will be where, on your hard drive, the software will go.

How does a download casino differ from an instant play casino?

The distinction among the two is actually quite straightforward. While an instant play casino simply requires that you register an account before you may go online and immediately start gambling, to play on a download casino you must first download and install a piece of software from the casino.

Are online-casino games compatible with Macintosh computers?

Yes. These days you can gamble online using programs like Flash, via your web browser, without having to download any software.

Do online casinos provide a play-for-free option?

Yes. Play-for-free games are offered by most online casinos and all you have to do to access them is download, install the software, and then register an account. There may even be an option for instant play at certain casinos that does not demand you open an account.

What is the minimum age requirement to play an online casino game?

Generally, casinos limit their players to 18 and older although sometimes you will find a casino that places the age limit at 21. Play-for-free games, however, do not have an age limit.

What do I need to know about depositing money into my casino account?

Almost all online casinos offer a variety of payment methods. Credit card, debit, NETeller, FirePay, and Click2Pay, are just a few of the various online payment methods.

2. Online Casino Security: What You Should Know

What should a casino do to ensure that my private information is secure?

You want to ensure that the casino handles your personal information with the highest possible levels of security to protect against identity theft. The greatest form of encryption is the 128-bit SSL encryption and it used by almost every online casino. The 128-bit SSL encryption is same security method used by major financial institutions.

Is it possible for me to review transaction history with the casino?

Yes. A complete history of your transactions is almost always made available by online casinos. If a disagreement occurs between the casino and a player, this documented history can be reviewed by either party.

How do I know that a casino game's outcome is in fact random?

Yes. Random number generators (RNG) are used by every single legitimate online casino out there. A RNG ensures that blackjack or poker hand, spine on the roulette wheel, or roll of the dice is completely arbitrary and generated by total chance for that specific event. Online casino's need not attempt to influence the consequences because they already have an advantage in the games.

3. Online Gambling: Before You Place Your Bet

How can I determine what a casino's average payout is?

It is essential that you determine the casino's average payout prior to deciding to play on any particular online casino. Most of the time, the casino will provide you this information as a percentage and it will usually be around 97%. A 97% average payout translates into an average edge of 3% on every bet in favor of the house. Keep in mind though, that the average payout is a number based on all the games combined so you may find a higher or lower payout, depending on the game.

Is it possible for me to chat online with other players while gambling?

Yes. Certain online casinos offer multi-player games in which you can chat while playing. Join one of these casinos if chatting is an option that interests you.

How can I tell what a multi-player game is?

Usually played in online table games such as craps, roulette, and blackjack, a multi-player game is one where more than one player takes part concurrently. Certain online casinos offer you the option of inviting players of your own choosing to a table created by you. These are known as private tables.

What should I know about the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA)?

The UIGEA is a United States law enacted in 2006 that is aimed at stopping online payment methods from financing offshore poker and casino websites. Thus, in order for a US player to gamble at an online casino, they must make sure that the casino permits players from America. Our site provides you with a full directory of US player-friendly poker and casino sites.

How can I determine whether I am playing a game that has a progressive jackpot?

When a jackpot increases in value with every bet placed it is known as a progressive jackpot. Usually composed of a multitude of video poker and slots machines, a progressive jackpot is created by taking a minute percentage of each player's bets and adding it to a rising money pot. Sometimes growing greater than three million dollars, these jackpots may become extremely large. For those of you desiring high jackpot games we suggest investigating casinos powered by Microgaming and, more specifically, games like Major Millions, King Cashalot, and Mega Moolah.

Its better to gain the basic knowledge when it comes to wagering at gambling websites and before risking your money at an online casino. Basic they may seem but its the most important part that each player should understand and follow.

I don't beleive that this is actually true primarily because of the fact that I've been playing for many years myself and have done some thorough analysis and addition to that have read up on the subject over and over again. Perhaps some of the software providers are doing this but to the likes of Microgaming, Playtech, Crypotlogic and a few of the other big online casino software providers who are well regulated they wouldn't do this. I don't think they'd risk the public scrutiny with this kind of stuff to be honest.

Just remember, no matter what this site says, they are getting a commission by referring you to online casinos - and real play is much tighter than practice play!!

Great article... I just wanted to comment on the point about chatting with other players at some online casinos. I think that most online casino software providers have done away with this feature mainly because of the fact that it caused too many issues with players arguing and fighting and really didn't benefit anyone. There's no doubt that a disgruntled player could cause a ruckus within the casino if they wanted to though such a chat feature. I do think it's wise for online casinos to have systems in place that would allow them to initiate a chat with players if they see that they're having problems. I have noticed that some online casinos do have such a feature and I think it's a valuable one to have.
