Playtech is a leading online gaming software provider that offers its product in both the download version and the instant play Flash version. By the end of August Betfair online casino will be offering the Playtech Flash software to its players as per the terms of agreement reached between the two companies.

Betfair and Playtech are not new to each other. The download casino at Betfair has been on the Playtech platform since November 2009. With this new agreement Playtech will become the sole software provider on the Betfair online casino portal. Almost the entire portfolio of the download casino will be available in the Flash casino. This will include most of the branded online slots, including the latest releases like Rocky and Pink Panther. Betfair will gain considerable synergy by having both the Flash and download casinos on the same operating platform. There will be greater opportunities for cross selling, more effective bonus packages and VIP management tools and above all a single casino wallet. Incidentally more than 75% of Betfair players prefer the Flash casino. Sam Hobcraft, Head of Gaming Products at Betfair, explained the reasons for choosing Playtech. He singled out the quality and range of Playtech online casino games. He said that this gave them an opportunity to add further games over time. Hobcraft added, "Since launching the download format with Playtech at the end of 2009 we have developed a strong working relationship and look forward to furthering this over the coming years."

Mor Weizer, chief executive officer of Playtech, also spoke on this expansion of Playtech's relationship with Betfair. He said, "We have very much enjoyed working with the Betfair team over the past year and this move will be a step change in our relationship as we become their exclusive casino tab supplier, and an important new revenue stream for us".

In a separate press release Weizer declared the half year results for the period January to June 2010. Though the positive regulatory changes in Europe were cited as on of the reasons for the excellent results, the major contributor to the kitty was William Hill. The joint venture that Playtech formed with William Hill was responsible for one third of Playtech's revenues. The gross income of Playtech during this period increased by 31% to €87.9 million and the profits rose by 20 % to €54.2 million. Speaking of the online gambling segments Weizer said that casino revenues were up 31% while poker revenues declined by 5%. The press release also listed new initiatives, like the Betfair deal, that would bring in revenue and profits in the second half of 2010 and in 2011.
