There was a time when Jacks or Better used to be the staple diet of the video poker player. But this is not true any more. With so many new variants on offer players are moving to the more exotic games in this category. Real Time Gaming (RTG) offers over 20 variants of video poker and this does not include multi hand games. The most popular ones are Double Double Bonus Poker, Bonus Deuces Wild, Deuces Wild and Bonus Poker. Jacks or Better has been flogged to death. Its strategy is so well known that playing it has become mechanical. The above mentioned games offer twists that make the play more interesting and more challenging without sacrificing the payout percentage.

There are two interesting features in Bonus Poker. The main one is that the Four of a Kind payline has been split into many paylines. Instead of a single payout for all Four of a Kind hands there are three different payouts. Four of a Kind 5s to Ks payout at 25 to 1; Four of a Kind 2s to 4s payout at 40 to 1 and Four of a Kind As payout at 75 to 1. The screenshot of the payout table is given below. The second feature is the Double or Nothing Bonus Round. The players can try to double their winnings by participating in this voluntary game. If they draw a card higher than the dealer they double otherwise they get nothing.

Double Double Bonus Poker takes the Four of a Kind theme further. There are five paylines in this game for Four of a Kind and to make things even more interesting two of these paylines take the fifth card into consideration. The payouts have also been enhanced for the Four of a Kind paylines. These range from 45 to 1 to 350 to 1. The screenshot of the payout table is given below. The Double or Nothing Bonus Round is also available.

The Deuces Wild variant is based on the concept of using the 2s as wild cards. The 2s can be substituted for that card which results in the highest possible ranked hand. To further add to the excitement three paylines are introduced. A hand consisting of four 2s is not treated as a normal Four of a Kind hand but a special hand known as 4 Deuces, which has a payout of 200 to 1, second only to the Royal Flush. A Royal Flush made using the wild 2s is different from a "natural" Royal Flush and obviously has a lower payout. The third special payline is Five of a Kind, which consists of four of a kind cards with the fifth card being a 2. The screenshot of the payout table is given below. The Double or Nothing Bonus Round is also available.

In Bonus Deuces Wild the Five of a Kind hand has been split into three paylines - Five 6s to Ks, Five 3s to 5s Five As. But the greatest feature in Bonus Deuces wild is the whopping payout of 800 to 1for a Royal Flush. The screenshot of the payout table is given below. The Double or Nothing Bonus Round is also available.

These games are available in both single hand and multi hand versions but players prefer the former. One reason is that it requires lower investments. And in multi hand games if players get a bad deal in the first hand it gets carried forward to all the hands.

Yeah I somewhat agree... I think that most video pokers you'll find are very generic and I beleive that part of the problem with this is really the idea and fact that video poker as a game is very simple with no real added features other then a gamble feature in most cases. I haven't ever seen a video poker game innovated on to the point where it's a completely new type of game (hybrid). Realtime Gaming video poker is pretty much the same as that of what you'll find at other casinos by other software providers. In fact Microgaming casinos offer the largest and biggest variety of video poker games variants that I've ever seen at online casinos. I think that they offer even more then what you'd typically find in land based casinos.
