Poker Pursuit is a casino poker game from the leading software provider Microgaming. It is listed under “Other” in the “More Tables” section of the games menu. On first appearance Poker Pursuit looks very much like a video poker game. The payout table is displayed on top and there is a provision to deal five cards in the playing area. The payout table begins with tens or better and follows the usual poker hand rankings. The payouts are listed for one coin, two coins and three coins separately. The payouts for two coins and three coins are exact multiples of the one coin payouts across all hand rankings. The one coin payouts are as follows: tens or better 2; two pairs 3; three of a kind 4; straight 6; flush 9; full house 12; four of a kind; straight flush 200 and royal flush 1,000.
The game play is different from video poker. The player starts by wagering one coin. This is the default entry and there is no option available. The one coin payout table is highlighted. The player can choose the coin denomination. The options available are 0.50, 1, 2, 5 and 10. The bet amount in credits is displayed in the Bet cell. On clicking the Deal button three cards are dealt to the player. Now the player can Raise or Call. If he raises then a second coin is wagered and the two coins payout table gets highlighted. If he calls, then the Microgaming Poker Pursuit game progresses without any additional bet. In any event the fourth card is dealt. The player faces the same two choices. If he raises then an additional coin is wagered and the next payout table highlighted. If he calls, then the game progresses without any additional bet. The last card is dealt. If the final hand corresponds to any in the payout table then the player receives a payout based on the hand ranking and number of coins wagered. The amount won is displayed in the Win cell.
Simple though the game is, there is obviously a strategy involved in Microgaming Poker Pursuit. Players who wager aggressively without regard for optimum strategy will end up losing more often. New players are advised to play Poker Pursuit in the Microgaming Expert Mode. There is an Auto Play option available and players can set up to 500 deals. The Auto Play is executed using optimum strategy. Players who watch the way the games are played can easily figure out the strategy.
Players who do not want to do that can use the following tips. The basic idea is that if there is already a winning hand then the player has to raise. Hence after three cards if the player has tens or better pair or any three of a kind then he should raise. Otherwise he should call. After four cards if the player has tens or better pair, any three of a kind, any two pairs or any four of a kind then he should raise. However, there is an exception here. The player should raise with four cards to a flush or four cards to a straight even though these are not already winning hands. In all other cases the player should call.
Poker Pursuit is live at all Microgaming online casinos. CasinoAdvisor recommends Platinum Play, Spin Palace, Golden Riviera and River Belle.
