Microgaming Lord of the Rings Imminent

Over the last few days the grapevine on the Internet has been reporting that Microgaming is due to release the Lord of the Rings slot games in September 2010. There is no official press release or other communication from Microgaming to this effect, however.

The unofficial news is that all three slot games will be released in September. The first slot game will be The Fellowship of the Ring followed by The Two Towers and finally The Return of the King. Therefore online slots players will not have to wait for months and years for the next part as they had to in the case of the movies. But the grapevine has some disconcerting news as well. It is rumored that these much awaited slots games will debut only at Ladbrokes Casino and at All Slots Casino. Again neither Microgaming nor the two online casinos in question have come out with any statement. But ardent fans of the Lord of the Rings would do well to sign up at Ladbrokes Casino or All Slots Casino in case this news of exclusivity is true. Microgaming does not have a history of doing this but some of the other online gaming software providers have started this practice.

Early this year Microgaming had announced a licensing agreement with Warner Bros as a result of which Microgaming would develop the mega movie trilogy as slot games. The movies were based on the cult epic by J.R.R. Tolkien. The slot games are expected to use characters and events from the movies and also animation and video clips. The movies were a multi-billion dollar box office success and have won 17 Oscars all together and Microgaming would be hoping that some of the magic would rub off.

At the time of the announcement, Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming had said, "We're excited about creating state-of-the-art video slots from the best movie trilogy of the decade. We look forward to bringing The Lord of the Rings into the online gaming sphere, where our expertise in game quality and speed to market will ensure its success. The Lord of the Rings has a huge entrenched fan base with over 97% awareness of the film franchise, as well as phenomenal and unprecedented home video success."

Along with Lord of the Rings, Microgaming had also announced a revamp of Thunderstruck. Thunderstruck II was released in May and has gone on to become one of the most popular releases ever. The Lord of the Rings trilogy of slots games are expected to surpass that.
