Spanish Blackjack Review

Spanish Blackjack (Gold Series) is an unusual blackjack variation created by Microgaming, well-known as the industry leader in online casino software. It is a single-hand game, and operates along the lines of a random shuffle after each round of play. It is played on a blackjack layout that looks very standard, although there are many things about the game that are hardly standard at all.

There are a number of options at the player's disposal. One of those options is to speed up play. There are four different settings - Slow, Medium, Fast and Fastest - and these have a very real effect, in that the fastest setting allows you to play more hands and consequently get in more action. You can also switch any of the sounds on or off that are included in this game, and those sounds fall into four categories: game sounds, win sounds, background sounds and advanced sounds. There is also the opportunity to stay in the regular screen mode, or go to the full screen. Read Full Review

Full Review - Spanish Blackjack (8.84)

Spanish Blackjack is played with eight decks of cards, on a layout with five spaces. Only one of these spaces - the one in the center - can be used to make bets, however. The decks may look like regular decks, but they are hardly normal. In fact, the tens (10's) have been taken out of each of those decks, so each deck is 48 cards.

There are "Bonus 21" hands that pay extra; for example, all five, six and seven-card 21's are Bonus 21 hands. as are three sevens of the same suit, mixed suits, etc.

The makers of the game may keep those tens away from you, but they have figured out a way to make it a sporting proposition by compensating in other ways. The option of Late Surrender is available in Spanish Blackjack; this allows you to give up half your wager on a bad hand after the dealer checks his/her hole card for blackjack but before the dealer's hand is played out. There is also a very unique option called "Double Down Rescue," in which you can actually perform a surrender function AFTER having doubled down, in effect taking your wager back to its original amount. So if you doubled down with 11 and got a two from the dealer, you can essentially erase that double.

Like any other version of blackjack, what you want to do is accumulate a total in your hand that is greater than that of the dealer without going over the total of 21, or to stay under 21 while the dealer exceeds that total (or "busts").
