Software (10)

The way to measure software in the gaming milieu involves several factors, not the least of which is how comfortable the player can be in the atmosphere that is created by the game. Here, the Microgaming people seem to have a feel for what the roulette enthusiast would like to see in a game. So kudos go to them.

Easy to Understand (7)

If you are a veteran roulette player, the game should be easy enough to understand, and it would be to advantage to go into "Expert Mode," where you can call various bets, such as the "Red Splits," "Black Splits" or "Zero Game," in which all of your chips will be placed pursuant to your wager on the layout automatically. If you are new to roulette, this game is going to be look complicated, as it takes a while to get used to the various bets that are available. But once you catch on, it might turn you into an enthusiast quickly. And even though there are a lot of angles to play, and a lot of aspects of this game that take it out of the realm of something "self-explanatory," you have the ability to access the considerable "Help" section for a sufficient explanation of everything.

Graphics & Sounds (9)

The graphics are so vivid and life-like that it is astounding. You get the voice of the croupier and the sounds of the ball clanging around the wheel. It's really a great experience that is very reminiscent of a brick and mortar casino. And we say that as a good thing. We will concede that it is not the easiest thing in the world to see the numbers on the wheel, but this is compensated for somewhat by the fact that if the sound is on, you will audibly hear the result of each spin of the wheel, and that is something that is not found in all online roulette games.

Game Speed (9)

Again, as with many of the Microgaming offerings, the game speed is whatever you want it to be. One of the interesting components of this game is that you have the ability to control the length of time the ball is spinning around the virtual roulette wheel. So if you're the kind of player who wants to wait and wait and wait to place that wager before the croupier declares "No More Bets," you may want to set the timer on as high a level as possible. As for the time between rounds, remember, roulette is the kind of game that is played at the player's pace, since each round of the game does not start until the player has made his/her bets and clicks on the "Spin" button.

Game Features (10)

One of the game features that is nice is the chart at the top right that allows the player to track each and every spin of the wheel. The "red" numbers are on the left of the chart and the "black" numbers that come up are on the right. This feature takes into consideration that some players like to use the results of past spins in their roulette strategy. From that standpoint it is a major convenience. If you have already spread some chips around the table you can simply click "Rebet" and all of those bets are immediately replaced on the table and ready for the next spin. Another interesting feature is that you can place "Neighbor Bets," which consist of the "straight-up" number you are playing, along with the two numbers bordering it on either side of the wheel (not on the layout). The default is two Neighbors, but you can set the control on any number of Neighbor numbers up to nine by going to "Game Options." Example, if you are betting the number 4 on the wheel and execute a Neighbor Bet at the level of 2, you will have a bet on 2, 15, 19 and 21, in addition to the 4.

Fun Factor (8)

If you are familiar with European variation of roulette, and perhaps do not have an opportunity to play it in the physical casino setting in the United States, you are going to appreciate what this game has to offer. From that perspective, you are going to get a lot of enjoyment out of this software package. The low yield the player can expect on the game might mitigate the experience, but if you've been playing roulette for a while you know that already.
