Microgaming offers more video poker variants at its online casinos than any other software provider. One of the popular variants is Double Double Bonus Poker. This article discusses the payout table, the playing mechanism and some elements of the strategy of Microgaming Double Double Bonus Poker.

The key differential between video poker variants is the payout table. Microgaming Double Double Bonus Poker follows the basic payout table of Jacks or Better with some overlays. In Jacks or Better there is a single payout of 25 coins for any Four of a Kind hand. In Double Double Bonus Poker there are five different Four of a Kind hands with payouts ranging from 50 coins to 400 coins. In order to compensate for this, the payout for Two Pairs has been reduced from 2 coins in the Jacks or Better variant to 1 coin in the Double Double Bonus Poker variant. This small reduction in the payout is very significant because Two Pair hands occur over 12%, whereas Four of a Kind hands occur significantly less than 1%.

The Four of a Kind hands in Microgaming Double Double Bonus Poker are as follows. Four aces with the fifth card being any two, three or four pays 400 coins, which is the highest payout and is greater than that of a Royal Flush. Four aces with the fifth card being any other card pays 160 coins. Four twos, threes or fours with the fifth card being an ace, two, three or four pays 160 coins. Four twos, threes or fours with the fifth card being any other card pays 80 coins. Any other Four of a Kind hand pays 50 coins.

For the sake of completion the other payouts are as follows. Royal Flush pays 250 coins, Straight Flush pays 50 coins, Full House pays 9 coins, Flush pays 6 coins, Straight pays 4 coins, Three of a Kind pays 3 coins, Two Pairs pays 1 coin and Jacks or Better pays 1 coin. These payouts are per coin wagered. For more than one coin wagered the payouts increase proportionately, except for Royal Flush with five coins wagered the payout is 4,000 coins and not 1,250 coins. With optimum strategy the average return to player is almost 99%.

The playing mechanism is simple. The player selects the coin size and number of coins. It is always better to play with five coins and adjust the total bet by manipulating the coin size. After the initial five cards are dealt, the player can mark which to hold. The player can enable the Auto Hold feature which indicates the cards to be held for highest returns. The remaining cards are replaced and the final hand compared with the payout table. Payouts are made for the winning combinations. An optional Double feature is available that allows players to try to double payouts without any house edge. Microgaming offers Double Double Bonus Poker in the multi hand Power Poker formats as well. It is available in 4 hands, 10 hands, 50 hands and 100 hands formats.

In order to achieve the 99% average returns players need to use optimum strategy all the time. The most important aspect of this strategy is resolving conflict hands. Some key conflict hands are described below. If the player is dealt a Full House with three aces and a pair then he must discard the pair and retain only the three aces. This is because the Four of a Kind Aces payouts are fantastic and worth trying for. However if a player is dealt a Full House with three of any card other than aces then he must retain the Full House. This is because the payouts for the other Four of a Kind hands are much lower. Microgaming Double Double Bonus Poker is live at online casinos like Golden Riviera, All Slots and Platinum Play.
