Microgaming Bags Prestigious Online Gaming Awards

The Global Gaming Awards are among the most respected awards that members of the gambling fraternity can receive. They also recognize merit in the online gambling arena. For the second year running, Microgaming has won the Digital Product of the Year at the Global Gaming Awards. In 2015 it received this award for the iconic Jurassic Park branded online slot which is available on all platforms. This year Microgaming also won the Digital Gaming Innovation award for its forward thinking work in Virtual Reality and Wearable Technology.

One of the reasons that the jury selected Jurassic Park was because of its Parallax Scrolling effect. This innovative feature was used for the first time in this slot game. Without getting into technicalities, this has the background images moving at a slower speed to as to create an impression of greater depth. In the Jurassic Park video slot the player is given the appearance of penetrating deeper and deeper in the dense forest. The slot game also features 3D-rendered imagery that brings to life the memorable dinosaurs from the movie such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor and Triceratops. The gaming features like the free spins and bonus games also had more to offer than what is par.

Digital Gaming Innovation of the Year was awarded to Microgaming over nine other shortlisted competitors. The award was for VR Roulette, which uses Oculus Rift wearable technology to transport the player to a casino in cyberspace. The project was initiated to study the immersive potential of 3D technology in the gaming industry, but it ended up creating a stunning game. Further developments include Augmented and Virtual Reality Apps for a range of devices.

Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming, said that they were proud to win two awards at this highly prestigious and credible award ceremony. He added, “But to win an award for innovation is particularly close to my heart as we have always worked so hard to stay several steps ahead of the industry, predicting trends and ensuring that our content works on emerging technology.” He thanked the Microgaming team for this huge achievement!”

The 2015 Global Gaming Awards were held on September 28 at the Venetian Palazzo Congress Center in Las Vegas. Some of the other awards in the online gaming field included Bet365 for Digital Operator and Net Entertainment for Digital Industry Supplier. A panel of 50 expert judges cast their vote to decide the worthy winners. KPMG Gibraltar officiated to provide complete transparency in the voting process.
