Microgaming has several Halloween themed online slots in its portfolio. But it has now taken the extra step. The leading games supplier to online casinos has signed a licensing agreement to develop an online slot based on the classic horror movie, Halloween.

The announcement does not reveal details of the proposed slot game. But, since Halloween was released in 1978, the press release gives interesting information about the movie to the new generation of players. Halloween is a slasher film, which was directed and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with producer Debra Hill and starred Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis. The six years old Michael Myers, murders his sister who on Halloween night in 1963 at the age of six, murdered his sister. Fifteen years later, he returns to continue his killing spree. The subject is certainly not for the faint hearted. This small budget film grossed $70 million worldwide. It spawned the Halloween franchise, with 10 films in total released to date.

The reasons for Microgaming choosing Halloween go well beyond its subject. In 2006 the movie was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. In 2010 it was listed in The 100 Greatest Movies of All Time. David Reynolds, Games Publisher at Microgaming, said, “Halloween is a true classic and set the standard for modern horror films. It was immeasurably influential in the slasher genre of movies, so it is great to be working with such an iconic and respected brand.” He added that the Microgaming games team will embrace all the elements of what made the movie such a success while developing the slot game for release later in the year. As in other Microgaming branded slots, Halloween will feature the film’s iconic characters and the renowned soundtrack. A good guess for the timing of the release is Halloween 2017.

This is a good time to remind players at Microgaming online casinos like All Slots, Royal Vegas and Golden Riviera that another branded slot game is also under development. This is based on the 2004 movie version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera. The film included the iconic numbers from the 1986 and grossed over $154 million worldwide. This branded slot was to be released in Q3. If Microgaming sticks to this schedule, The Phantom of the Opera should launch either in August or September.
