Martial arts refer to the ancient combat skills of the Far East, like karate, judo and kung fu. Today they are extremely popular as mechanisms of self defense and as competitive sport. The first slot game is titled Street Fighter IV, which is a makeover of yet an earlier version titled Street Fighter II. Both versions of Street Fighter are branded slots based on the arcade games bearing the same names. Street Fighter IV is the slicker game with richer graphics and audio. In particular the introductory clip and win animations are more dynamic as is required for the action nature of the theme. The highlight of Street Fighter IV is the bonus game. It is triggered when three or more scatter symbols appear on the reels. The player has to choose his street fighter and the martial arts move. The enemy is automatically allocated by the game. The player is given a base amount of 10 free spins. Then the street fighter battles the enemy and if the enemy wins then there are no enhancements to the free spins. But if the street fighter wins then the number of free spins and/or multiplier may be enhanced. The enhancement is decided by the choice of street fighter and move. These are displayed in the game rules. For example the choice of Ken and Ultra Move will add four spins and multiply payouts by three.

Microgaming had earlier launched a martial arts themed slot game titled Kung Fu Monkey. It is based on a kidnapping drama set in Chinatown. In the introductory clip the Kung Fu Monkey is searching for a baby kidnapped by Big Boss Gorilla, the Baboon and the Ninja Monkey. All of these are represented as symbols on the reels. As can be expected in a martial arts themed slots game there are plenty of animations in the winning combinations. The Kung Fu Monkey Logo is the wild symbol. The slot game has two scatter symbols. The Gong scatter symbol appears only on reels 1 and 5 and awards 10 free spins at doubled payouts.

The Chinatown scatter symbol appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and triggers the Kung Fu bonus round, which is a three level game on the second screen. In the first level the player has to pick three out of six baboons. If the baboons defeat the Kung Fu Monkey the player does not advance to the next round but is given compensatory free spins. The second level is played in the same manner with ninjas instead of baboons. In the final level the Kung Fu monkey fights the Big Boss. The player has to choose the martial arts move.
