Innovative blackjack variants are not only found at online casinos. There are some land casinos that offer exotic blackjack games. It is true that these games are not that widespread, nor that popular. However, it is a matter of time before software developers pick up some of these games for their new online blackjack variants. This article has selected some of the more interesting of these innovative land casino blackjack variants.
Burn 20 Blackjack is a blackjack game in which the player does not have to worry about playing against a 2-card 20 hand of the dealer. The game play is as follows. If the dealer’s face up card has a value of 10, he will check the hole card. If that is another 10 value card, then he will discard both cards and draw two new cards from the shoe. This process will repeat as many times as required. Once the dealer has discarded two 10 value cards,if the face up card again has a 10 value and the hole card is a suited ace, resulting in a suited blackjack, the dealer will discard both cards and draw fresh ones. In order to level the playing field one rule is tweaked. If the dealer busts with 22 points then all players still standing will push instead of win.One may expect Burn 20 Blackjack to offer a lower house edge than the normal blackjack variants. However, this is not so. The house edge for Burn 20 Blackjack is 0.80%, which is marginally higher than that for normal blackjack variants.
Free Bet Blackjack allows players to double and split under certain circumstances for free. The details are as follows. The player is allowed free double on hard totals of 9, 10, or 11 with any number of cards. As is the case in the usual double move, the player is dealt only one additional card. If the dealer wins or the hand results in a tie, then the player loses only his original wager. If the player wins, the player gets back his original wager plus winnings equal to double that wager. The player is allowed free spilt on all pairs except tens. The payouts work in exactly the same way as the double. The price for the free bets is that the dealer pushes on 22. If the player stands and the dealer busts with 22, then the player’s wager is a push. The house edge for Free Bet Blackjack is 0.80%.
Many of the innovative blackjack variants convert wins into ties or ties into losses and compensate the player in some way. Ties Win Blackjack moves in the opposite direction. It turns ties into wins by penalizing the player in some ways. The material differences in the rules are as follows. All ties pay 1 to 2.Player may only hit and stand.Winning blackjack pays even money. The biggest disadvantage of Ties Win Blackjack is that much of the excitement is lost with the elimination of the double and split moves. Ties Win Blackjack can be played with either of the following options for the dealer’s rules. If the dealer stands on soft 17 then the house edge is 0.27%. If the dealer hits on soft 17 then the house edge is 0.53%.
