How to Regulate Your Own Play to Prevent Problem Gambling

One of the issues that strongly affects the ability for people to play in online casinos is the simple fact that not everyone can keep it under control as far as it just being a recreational activity. A lot of people want to be able to do this, but they just can't because of whatever disposition that these people have that makes them prone to compulsive gambling habits. It's everyone's job to regulate their own play to look for patterns of problem gambling and to help keep things under control if they discover this sort of pattern.

There are tons of different surveys and sets of questions out there that are designed to help you determine if you're displaying compulsive gambling habits, but there's a really simple way to determine this with just one question: Can you set aside reasonable amounts of money for your bankroll as an item in your overall budget and keep to that amount instead of having to deposit more? If you can do this, then chances are that you are not a victim of compulsive gambling. If you cannot, however, then you probably are, and if this is the case, then you should seek help.

In the same way that an alcoholic cannot just enjoy a couple of drinks, a compulsive gambler cannot just enjoy bets of a reasonable size. It's not really fair to look at people with these types of habits as being "lower than" normal because it's really out of their hands. Along the same lines, those who do have this problem shouldn't think poorly of themselves for it. However, they should keep in mind that they have to make strategic and tactical decisions to prevent themselves from falling victim to their state.

For example, there are plenty of self-regulatory, preventative measures that you can use from within the casino software itself. One way to do this is by setting spending limits for yourself, and this is probably the most effective option for playing at a single online casino. The idea here is that you set limits when you first create your account that have to be respected by the software. You could set a weekly or monthly limit on deposits, for example, and you wouldn't be able to exceed these limits. This sets a control that can't be broken and helps to regulate your play.
