There are dozens of types of video poker games out there. Even though there are several different types, many of these variations have been covered in detail and broken down with mathematically-proven strategies. Some of these strategies are exceptionally difficult to learn because they are so complicated. If you want to develop your own strategies for video poker, then there's a process that you can follow. All video poker games are primarily based on one of two styles of video poker: Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild. If you use strategies for these two games as a starting point, then you can build your own strategies and manipulate them over time as you learn more about video poker.
The first step overall is to categorize your game based on whether or not it has wild cards. If it does not use wild cards, then you will use Jacks or Better as your base game for developing your strategies. On the other hand, if it does use wild cards, then you'll want to stick with Deuces Wild. You'll need to know the strategies for each of these two games, or at least for the one that you're using as your base game, before you can go on to the other steps in this process.
Next, your job is to figure out the main differences between the base game and the game that you are building a strategy for. The first place to look for this is extra payouts. In non-wild card games, this might be the only major difference in the game. With wild card-based games, you'll want to look at how many wilds are in the deck and which cards are used as wilds. This is a key step in this process, and you'll want to be sure to take your time on it.
Finally, you'll need to use the differences that you have identified and figure out how you should adjust the base strategy to compensate for these differences. You can be as detailed or as general with this as you want, but the point is that you want to end up with something that you can put into practice. Write your strategic ideas down and keep them somewhere where you can come back and edit and refine them over time to get better and better strategies for your video poker game of choice.
