The Global iGaming Summit & Expo (GiGSE) is starting today at Montreal in Canada. There will be a one day pre conference workshop on May 11 followed by a two day conference on May 12 and May 13. This will be accompanied by an exposition where some of the leaders in the industry will exhibit their products and services. The event will take place at the Palais des Congress. GiGSE was an annual event for nine years till 2007. It served as a window to the North America gambling market. It was not held for two years because there was significantly less interest in the North American market on account of the UIGEA. Now with things appearing to ease off in the United States and Canada, GiGSE is back on stream.

GiGSE offers the following benefits to member delegates and companies. It will provide an understanding of the current online gaming legal scenario at both the state and federal levels. This would help online gaming operators not only plan their entry strategy into the ultimately regulated North American market but bid for brand leadership. GiGSE would also give offshore delegates and opportunity of finding local strategic partners.

The pre conference workshop would deal with practical issues. According to the program posted at the GiGSE web site the workshop will handle evaluation of online gambling potential in North America, understanding the demographics of the online player, arriving at an optimal online gambling product mix, security and player protection, promoting online gambling web sites and search engine marketing in Internet gaming. The workshop will take place through small round table discussions, presentations and brainstorming sessions.

Regulation will be the key issue for the conferences. Different sessions will discuss pros and cons of regulation, alternative forms of regulation, how regulation would affect different stakeholders and the political will to regulate or lack of it. One interesting session is on how to leverage land casino brand equity for online gambling. Special sessions will be devoted to Europe and Canada.

As expected the speakers' list reads like the galaxy of the online gambling world. The online gambling industry is represented by speakers from Ladbrokes, Betfair, Harrah's, PKR and Betsson. Representative organizations include iMEGA, Poker Players Alliance and GPWA. Speakers representing law making and enforcing bodies and consultants will also participate. Some of the internationally acclaimed personalities who will be speaking at the conferences include Joe Brennan Jr. of iMEGA, Frank Catania of Catania Consulting, Mitch Garber the CEO of Harrah's Entertainment and John Pappas of Poker Players Alliance.
