As the online casino industry becomes more complex, with tougher requirements being imposed by regulatory authorities, the London-based independent online gambling advisory and compliance testing specialist eCOGRA continues to expand on the range of services in its portfolio. eCOGRA has just announced the addition of third party vulnerability and penetration testing. It stated that this was a condition put by most of the leading regulatory jurisdictions, such as the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain, where eCOGRA is an approved services provider.

Third party vulnerability and penetration testing involves identification of the threats that may compromise the confidentiality, integrity, accountability and availability of the organization's information systems. The required test regime consists of a number of different assessments. eCOGRA will conduct these at both the operator's and software provider's networks to ensure that the security layers are not breached. The organization has claimed that it has developed the necessary professional capabilities to conduct such assessments using in-house specialist resources.

Chief executive officer of eCOGRA, Andrew Beveridge, released a statement commenting on the expanded service. He pointed out that it had become mandatory for online casino operators and software providers to carry out these tests as a part of the license conditions. Normally they would have to go to additional third party contractors. Now they can assign this work to eCOGRA as a part of the single umbrella services. Beveridge said, “In order to effectively service our clients across multiple regulated jurisdictions, it was necessary for us to have the professional capability to provide the full suite of services required by licensing authorities…” He pointed out that eCOGRA’s ability to perform vulnerability and penetration testing complements the other services offered such as games and platform testing, RNG and RTP monitoring, information security audits and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

The vulnerability and penetration testing services will be headed by business development manager Shaun McCallaghan. He said that eCOGRA had developed this expertise in response to operator demand. McCallaghan added, “In order to meet this demand, we've put together a first rate team of individuals with Big 4 auditing firm and online gambling industry backgrounds, including Ethical Hackers, ISO 27001 Lead Auditors, Vulnerability Assessors and Certified Information System Auditors.”

With respect to online casino gambling there are two specific areas of concern. One is the sensitive information of the online casino players stored on the servers of the operators, which includes bank account and credit card details. The other is the process of funds transfer to and from online casinos.
