eCOGRA Adds To Online Gambling Certification Capabilities

The independent online gambling testing and compliance advisory company eCOGRA has announced that it has become the first test house to be authorised to offer online casino operators and service providers accredited International Standards Organisation ISO 27001 certifications for Information Security Management Systems.

Online casinos store tremendous amount of information pertaining to players on their servers. Players provide credit card and bank information to the online casinos. The online casinos also have details of the amounts wagered and won by the players. This information has to be managed in a secure manner in many ways. The online casinos have to prevent hackers from accessing the servers. There have to be systems in place to ensure that the managers of the online casino do not misuse the information and use it only in accordance with the explicit permission given by the players. The best online casinos take the required precautions and aver as much on their web sites. But if the same assertion is made by an independent expert agency then it will be much more meaningful and satisfying for the players. This is where eCOGRA’s announcement comes in.

Elaborating on the announcement, CEO Andrew Beveridge said that many online gambling regulators are moving towards a requirement for online casino operators and their service providers to achieve this accreditation. Many national regulatory authorities in Europe have waived certain security auditing requirements if the licence holder is ISO 27001 certified. This certificate is issued when the operator has systems in place to identify, manage and reduce risks to information security across all business functions. eCOGRA director Tex Rees said that the company is already in discussions with a number of major online casino operators for the new service. These operators have shown interest in acquiring the ISO 270001 certification.

In order to provide ISO 27001 certifications to online casino operators, eCOGRA obtained the required accreditation from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service. This is a prerequisite that indicates eCOGRA is competent to carry out third-party certifications and audits of Information Security Management Systems. eCOGRA was given this accreditation on the basis of its in-house resources and its multi-disciplined assessment, testing, compliance and technical teams and online gambling industry experience dating back to 2003.

eCOGRA already provides several testing services to the online gambling industry. It covers online casinos, mobile casinos, live dealer casinos, software providers and affiliate programs and more. Online casinos of the Jackpot Factory, Fortune Lounge and Vegas Partner Lounge have availed of these services.
