Morris Mohawk and Bodog Online Casino
The Bodog group was founded by Calvin Ayre. A few years ago Ayre sold the North American online gambling operations to Alwyn Morris of the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group. Last week Rebecca Liggero conducted an in depth interview with Morris and learned about both the man and his online casino. This was the first time that Morris had given such a detailed interview.

Morris was already famous before he got involved with Bodog. He had won two Olympic medals, including a gold medal, in canoeing in Los Angeles in 1984. He is also the recipient of the Order of Canada which is the highest civilian order that is bestowed in Canada. This honor, which is normally granted to geniuses, Prime Ministers and Supreme Court Chief Justices, was bestowed upon Morris for his work with Aboriginal youth in the field of Alcohol and Drug abuse. Morris was a principal advisor to the Chief and Council when he got involved in the negotiations between the Mohawk Council and the Government of Quebec regarding the regulation of online gaming. It was then that he decided to establish a platform for online gambling.

Morris initially wanted to develop his own online casino brand from scratch. However he met Ayre who wanted to get out of Bodog. It made sense to save time, effort and resources and buy an established brand. Morris owns the franchise of Bodog online gambling operations for North America. He is not involved with the European operations or with the newly set up Asian operations. He is also not involved with the other entertainment brands that Bodog offers. Talking about his operations Morris said, "We manage the product development, maintain the infrastructure, run customer service, marketing, and so on." Morris is very clear as to what he wants from Bodog in the long run and also what he does not want. For example he is clear that the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group will not service customers in Canada. However one of the other franchisees of Bodog may start operating in the Canadian market. Similarly the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group will not be selling Bodog branded goods online, though again some other franchisee will possibly do that.

Morris also outlined what members of the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group Bodog Casino can expect in the near future. Some of the issues that he stressed were improvement in user experience, reduction in barriers to entry and considerably more digital entertainment. Specifically there are plans to update the casino lobby and to add new and exciting games along with tournaments, contests and promotions. The objective is to give players greater opportunity to win "great bonuses and prizes". Morris named Food Fight, Cesar’s Empire and Jackpot Piñatas as the most popular online slot games at Bodog Casino. He also referred to two games that are unique to Bodog Casino and not found elsewhere. These are Mystic Shuffle Hi-Lo and Dirty Martini online slot.

Speaking about himself in a lighter vein Morris said that he loves James Bond movies and that his golf handicap is about 16. He also narrated a story about President Obama’s dog. The dog was to be named Sportingbet. However his crack PR team got involved and the dog was named "Bo" after Bodog.

Bodog is always up to something it seems like they have to be as they're always in the spotlight and not in a good way. I think that Calvin Ayre stepping down was mainly to save face. Apparently after the UIGEA passed he came out and basically told the US and said "Catch me if you can..." Very bold I must say so this move was definitely one in an attempt to preserve what's left of the company.

I still find it hard to beleive that the Kahnawake just outside of Montreal, Quebec, Canada is legally permitted to license and operate online casinos from their territory. This would most certainly be forbidden in the United States.

I knew about Morris for a while but I didn't realize what kind of involvement they actually had in the Bodog operation it's quite interesting.
