A few months ago Keith McDonnell, Managing Director of Bodog Europe, had said in an interview that one of the events that his Bodog portal was looking forward to was the launch of Canada facing online gambling portal. In a press release dated September 3 McDonnell announced that Bodog.ca has gone live.

The Bodog brand is owned by Calvin Ayre. It has been licensed to three different organizations for three different markets. Bodog North America operates from Kahnawake and caters to the United States Market. Bodog Europe operates from the United Kingdom and caters to the European and now Canadian markets. Bodog88 caters to the Asian and particularly Chinese market.

Bodog Europe originally had rights only for the European market and was focusing most of its attention in the United Kingdom. But when McDonnell learnt that Ayre was looking for a licensee to market the brand in Canada, he acted quickly and bought the exclusive Canadian license.
At the launch of the Canada facing portal McDonnell said, "We're extremely excited to be able to bring the unique Bodog experience to Canadian players. Canadians are passionate sports fans and are extremely savvy consumers. The Bodog brand is known world-over for its unmatched customer service and here at Bodog Europe we put the player's experience and entertainment ahead of all else – I'm confident that we're going to quickly earn Canadians' loyalty and trust."

The Bodog.ca online gambling portal includes world-class sports betting, a dynamic poker community, and above all a full-fledged online casino with more than 80 instant play and downloadable games from Real Time Gaming. It is regulated and licensed by the Directorate of Offshore Gaming of the Antigua & Barbuda Financial Services Regulatory Commission. The Canadian Football League is in its closing stages and Bodog.ca offers not only sports betting focusing on the event but some excellent promotions as well. Canadian players avidly follow American hockey and football as well and Bodog.ca also covers these events.

The launch of Bodog.ca has coincided with the 15th anniversary of the Bodog Brand. Ayre, who had been out of the limelight for a while, is back at the helm of affairs now that the legal issues of the Bodog brand have been settled. In an interview given last month he outlined some of the developments that the Bodog brand was looking at. Bodog entered the Asian market a year ago. Ayre is working with Haydock Entertainment to open out the market further. One of the features that they are keen to develop and promote is the live dealer games. Ayre is hoping that the popularity of these games in Asia will rub off on the other Bodog markets as well. Ayre also stated that Central America is a potential expanding market for online gambling. One can expect some announcement in that regard in the near future.

Really they say that all legal issues have been settled. I never heard any news about Bodog settling for example with the DoJ or anything I wonder if there was a backdoor deal that was made with the US gov't that has gotten him off the hook.

Seems like Bodog has as of late been trying to recapturing market share as a leader in gaming entertainment. I think that launching a Canadian brand is definitely a good move for them as the Canadian market has really begun to evolve and grow quite rapidly in the past few years from what I understand.
