Bodog Brand Leaves the US

The Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (MMGG) was the Bodog Brand franchisee that serviced the American online gambling market with casino, poker, horse racing and sports betting verticals. In June 2011 Bodog had announced that it will let its agreement with MMGG expire at the end of 2011, following which American players would not be able to access the Bodog online gambling portals. This decision was taken keeping in mind the uncertainty in online gambling legalization in the United States and the growth in other online gambling markets that Bodog wanted to focus on.

Bodog and MMGG have not waited till December 31 to terminate the agreement. With effect from December 14, American players trying to access the MMGG Bodog online casino were unable to do so. They found a note stating, "Access to this site is not available from your current location. The Morris Mohawk Gaming Group no longer offers its services under license from the Bodog Brand." Nor will they be able to access the Bodog sites operating from other jurisdictions.

This does not mean that these American players have been left stranded. They can withdraw their funds if they want to or they can transfer their account to the new MMGG online gambling portal. This portal will operate using the brand name Bovada from the web site at www.bovada.lv. This is registered in Latvia. Actually American players were supposed to be automatically directed to the new MMGG online casino web site.

The Bovada web site tag line reads "Same Operator. New Name and Look." But the American players who continue to wager at Bovada will find many similarities. The new brand name is a combination of the words Bodog and Nevada. The styling is similar and the same verticals are offered. Bovada is also licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. Players can sign into the new site with existing user names and passwords, and existing balances have been transferred to the new site. Bovada Casino is powered by software from Realtime Gaming and therefore players will find the same set of games. The Bovada poker, sports betting and horse racing portals also bear similarities to the Bodog Brand ones.

The Bodog brand has once again expressed confidence in the new MMGG venture, stating that the customer account information and funds will continue to remain safe and secure, as they have done since 2006, when MMGG entered into the original agreement with the Bodog Brand. Bodog also stated that they would like to wish MMGG the greatest success in its new venture.
