Microgaming has been making big news. There is a big winner, a big announcement and a big slots release.

Microgaming’s progressive online slot Mega Moolah has been making millionaires regularly. So when it made a new one it was not big news. The big news was that the winner took home the 5th largest Microgaming payout ever. The Mega Progressive of Mega Moolah was hit on Monday September 25 providing a life-changing €7,742,015.53 pay day. The Microgaming press release stated that this was the second largest prize to be won on this slot game this year, following the €8 million mobile jackpot hit in April. As is the case with all Microgaming progressive wins the player will receive the prize as a lump sum. All Microgaming and Quickfire operators have access to Microgaming’s progressive jackpot network, which is the biggest in the industry, having paid out over €783 million to date.

Microgaming is building up its branded slots portfolio with one announcement after another. The latest is a licensing agreement with Studiocanal to develop an online slot based on the original Highlander film. This film was released in 1986 and was directed by Russell Mulcahy. Highlander, based on a story by Gregory Widen, is set in the 1980s New York City and historical Scotland. The title role played by Christopher Lambert is of an immortal Scottish swordsman, Connor MacLeod who must confront the last of his immortal opponent to win the fabled prize. The film has developed an enormous cult following, inspiring a franchise which stands strong to this day.

David Reynolds, Games Publisher at Microgaming, outlined the reasons for this choice. He said that the action-packed storyline and hefty rock inspired composition make it a fantastic brand for an online slot. The Microgaming game studio is busy completing the slot that captures the movie’s magic. Reynolds added, “The game’s features will incorporate the historical Scottish Highlands and gritty New York City, with a classic movie poster art style and blistering guitar tracks.”

Highlander will be released in the 243 ways to win format, which is seen in many of the Microgaming branded slots. The release date has been set as Wednesday December 6. Many of the iconic heroes and villains from the classic film will be featured in the slot. These include Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, Roxanne Hart as Brenda Wyatt and Clancy Brown as The Kurgan.

The Halloween branded slot announced earlier has gone live this week on the instant play and mobile gaming platforms of all Microgaming online casinos. It has lived up to the high expectations.
