The most common classification of games is based on their nature, which is slots, table games, video poker etc. However games can also be classified according to player interaction. Some important categories in this regard are new games, most recently played games and favorite games. Players would like to access games in these categories directly without going through the entire list of games. Therefore most online gaming software providers have built in mechanisms for doing so. This article discusses the mechanisms prevalent in some of the common software packages.
Microgaming has a separate category for New Games in the Games Menu. All new games are listed there. After a few months they are automatically removed from this category. Microgaming also has a Favorites category. Players cannot select which games to put there. All games downloaded by the player are automatically stored there. Hence this category is a mix of favorite and recently played games. The problem with Microgaming software is that the list of games in Favorites can grow indefinitely. Therefore after a while it becomes meaningless. Players who want to use this category will have to keep deleting the games they do not want from this list.
The Games Menu at Vegas Technology online casinos has a special section for New Games. New Games released are listed there and can be accessed from there. Vegas Technology software does not keep track of recently played games or favorite games.
Realtime Gaming lists the new games right on top of the regular lists in the Games Menu. No special indication is provided to identify the games as new. Recently played games are shown towards the bottom of the casino screen. There is no provision to create favorite games.
Playtech software has a separate category for New Games in the Games Menu. New games released are automatically added to the list and after some time the games are removed from the list. The Games Menu also has a separate category for Favorite Games. Games have to be added to this category by selecting the game and clicking the star symbol. Playtech software does not track the most recently played games.
When the Cryptologic casino opens after the player logs in, a box is displayed, which contains the new games. These are listed according to the following categories – hot (popular) games, slots, table games and video poker. The same information is available in the Games menu that lists new games separately. The player interface at the bottom left of the screen has a tab "Most Recent". Clicking this tab reveals the last five games played. As the player wagers on the games the last played game automatically replaces the earliest played game in the Most Recent list. In the interface there is another tab "My Favorites". Players can drag their favorite games from the main menu into this tab. Then when the tab is clicked it will display the favorite games.
Rival Gaming does not have a separate category for new games in the Games Menu. The new games in each category are listed above the regular games. Rival Gaming marks these games as "New" so that players can identify them easily. Rival Gaming software does not keep track of recently played games or favorite games.
