Understanding Cryptologic Video Poker

Cryptologic is best known for its branded slot games, but it also offers excellent fare in video poker. The video poker games are sub classified into three categories, which are Over Poker, Bonus Video Poker and Video Poker. The Video Poker category offers the staple games and is the subject of this article. The article highlights the features that make Cryptologic Video Poker games top class casino games. Jacks or Better is being used as a reference.

The most important facet that requires understanding is the mechanism of placing the wager. Cryptologic does not have separate video poker games for different number of hands. It allows players to select the desired number of hands from within the game. And this selection can be altered after each set of hands is played out. The number of hands varies from 1 to 100 in selected stops. The next choice is the coin size. This varies from 0.10 to 20.00 credits in the currency of choice. The final parameter is the number of coins. This varies from 1 to 5. As is usual with video poker games the payout for Royal Flush with 5 coins wagered is 800 to 1 as against 500 to 1 in other cases. The total amount wagered per game is the product of the three selections made and is displayed in the Total Bet cell.

Before activating the game players must exercise their choices in the options provided. There are three game speeds to choose from. The fastest speed dispenses with card animations and exposes all cards instantaneously. This is very useful when playing multi hand games, especially with 25 hands or more. But in the single hand games some players will like the suspense of cards being exposed one at a time. They can select the slowest of the three speeds. Another useful feature is the Auto Hold. The cards that should be marked hold are automatically done so. This may spoil the fun for the expert video poker aficionado but is a boon for new players. The Cryptologic software does not impose this feature on the players. Those who wish to wager without its assistance can disable it. The voices and sound effects can also be enabled or disabled from the Settings button. There are no voices in the Video Poker games and therefore this option is immaterial. The sound effects are unobtrusive, but to enable or disable them is an individual call. Players must remember that the choices made through the Settings button apply across all games.

The payout table is displayed below the cards. It depicts the total payout in coins and as the player increases or decreases the number of coins wagered the payout table is automatically adjusted. Each hand ranking has a different color code in the payout table. The game is played in the usual manner. If the player ultimately draws a winning combination then the hand ranking on a color coded bar appears across the hand. In multi hand games where there is not enough space for the text only the color coded bar appears. In the payout table the winning hand rankings are highlighted with the number of each type of hand ranking obtained displayed. The total amount won is displayed in the Paid cell. Cryptologic Video Poker has a gamble game that can be activated by clicking on the Double Up button. Players can stake the amount won in the hand and try to double it by guessing the color of the card dealt or try to quadruple it by trying to guess the suit of the card.
