Microgaming progressive jackpots are such that even one hit makes the news. Now in quick succession, within the space of less than two days, the two most popular Microgaming progressive jackpot slots have registered hits. They were not the largest of hits as far as the previous records of these jackpots are concerned, but they were huge when compared with the industry average. The first to hit was Major Millions. It was soon followed by Mega Moolah.

Major Millions paid out $562,944, which is just double its reset level of $250,000. This progressive jackpot made history when it became the first progressive jackpot payout over $1 million. However the last one year all it hits have been below a million dollars. The last million dollar plus hit was registered in the first quarter of 2008. Major millions has hit six times in the last 12 months at an average of $744,265.

Mega Moolah paid out $1,171,727, just a little above its reset level of $1 million. Its 6 million plus hit less than two months ago is still fresh in mind. Beyond doubt the winner must be overjoyed at becoming an instant millionaire. However this hit will disappoint the online casino industry at large. This is because it is used to seeing very big hits on this jackpot. The last three hits have all been above $4 million. In fact the payouts from Mega Moolah have been steadily increasing from $4.3 million to $5.6 million to $6.4 million and players must have been expecting the jackpot to cross $7 million this time. Therefore a hit of less than $1.2 million is a letdown.

These two hits have come at a very opportune time for Microgaming. Microgaming has just launched an online slots tournament called the Grand Slam of Slots which promises to make the first online slots tournament millionaire. The promos for this event do not fail to point out that it was Microgaming that had made the online casino industry’s first progressive jackpot millionaire. The Major Millions hit will remind players that it was on this progressive slot that Microgaming made history. And the Mega Moolah hit will remind players that Microgaming consistently delivers million plus payouts. Therefore these two hits will boost the traffic at the Grand Slam of Slots event.

Three months ago before the huge Mega Moolah hit, the total of all Microgaming progressive jackpots was well over $7 million. This has now come down to $2.2 million. As far as jackpot pools go Microgaming is accustomed to being at the top of the list. Right now it is at the bottom with Real Time Gaming at $4.2 million, Playtech at $2.7 million and Vegas Technology and Cryptologic at $2.4 million. But Microgaming progressive jackpots rise much faster than others and it should not be long before they regain their lead status.
