Playtech Releases Gladiator Video Slot Game

Recently the online gaming software provider Playtech announced its exclusive four-year deal with Paramount Pictures to release branded video slots based on two of the most popular Paramount movies Gladiator and The Untouchables. Then speculation was rife as to which of the two movies would hit the Playtech online casinos first in the form online slot games. Now the uncertainty is over. Playtech has released Gladiator.

Gladiator is a 5 reel and 25 payline video slot game with up to 10 coins being wagered per payline. The highlight of the slot game is the links that it has maintained with the Oscar Award winning movie. Graphics from the movie can be seen in the game. When winning combinations are hit on the reels the game plays short clips from the movie. Above all many of the symbols on the reels are characters from the movie and they are represented by the actual actors who essayed the roles. Players can see Joaquin Phoenix as Emperor Commodus. Phoenix has recently announced his retirement from movies and had made his musical debut as a hip hop artist. The late Oliver Reed features as Proximo and Connie Nielsen features as Lucilla. Unfortunately Russell Crowe, the Oscar best actor winner and the man who played the Gladiator, is missing from the reels. No reason has been attributed for this by Playtech. Possibly the rights to use Crowe’s image were not available.

Gladiator offers two out-of-the-world bonus games. The Coliseum symbol is the scatter symbol and three of these trigger the Coliseum bonus round. This round offers up to 24 free spins with up to 3x multiplier plus extra scatter and wild symbols. Players have to pick stones starting from the bottom row. The first row reveals the number of free spins; the second row reveals the multiplier and the third row reveals the extra scatter symbols for the bonus game that will offer additional payouts. The free spins cannot be retriggered but the Commodus symbol appearing on reel 3 gives three additional free spins. Three Helmets on reels 2, 3 and 4 trigger the Gladiator bonus round. The player has to pick nine Helmets from those displayed on the screen. Each helmet reveals one of three prizes gold, silver or bronze. The total of all Helmets is the bonus won by the player. A gamble feature is also offered in the Gladiator online slot game.

Playtech has teamed up with Dreamworks to create Gladiator. Technically this is an excellent offering. The quality of the graphics, audio and video is unmatched. The theme is popular. There have been other slot games based on this theme, including one called Gladiator by Microgaming. The features offered are interesting. With Gladiator Playtech has made a mark in the big league, which was till now the preserve of Microgaming and Cryptologic.
