Texas Hold'em is the most popular form of poker. Most of the events at the ongoing World Series of Poker tournament are being played in this format. Most online gaming software providers offer a version of this game in which a player competes against the dealer. Playtech in addition offers a fixed odds Arcade game Hold'em Showdown at its online casinos.
Playtech Hold'em Showdown is played as follows. The player first chooses the bet size with which he wants to start the game. He then clicks the Deal button to deal four sets of Opponent hole cards and the Dealer hole cards. Based on the cards dealt odds are offered for the Opponent winning and the Dealer winning for each hand. Eight odds are offered in all. The odds are offered in the form of the total payout in case the outcome is selected and it materializes. It includes the current bet.
The player then has to make his move. He must choose one of the four Opponent hands and then predict whether the Dealer or the chosen Opponent will win the Hold'em showdown. Only one of the eight payouts offered can be chosen. As is the case in fixed odds Arcade game, the greater the likelihood of the outcome materializing, the lower the payout would be. And the less the likelihood of the outcome materializing, the higher the payout would be.
The player makes his choice by clicking the Win button that corresponds to his chosen outcome. First the cards of the Opponents that were not chosen are removed. Then the remaining community cards are dealt – first the Flop, then the Turn, and then the River, with a pause between each. Poker players will be able to sense the possibilities and feel the excitement building up as the community cards are dealt. Then the winner is announced. The cards that belong to the best card combination are highlighted while the remaining cards are faded out. A different sound effect is heard depending on who wins the game.
If the player wins his initial stake is replaced by the current payout. The player has the option of continuing with it. He can bank half his current stake or bank all of it and make a new initial wager. If the player loses then he forfeits the wagered amount and must make a new initial bet. If the hands are tied then the bet pushes.
Playtech Hold'em Showdown has certain features that add interest to the game play. If the player is not happy with the dealt Opponent hands then instead of making a selection he can click the Shuffle button. This will remove all the four sets of Opponent hands and deal new ones. The Dealer hand will remain the same. A total of three shuffles are allowed. Thereafter the player will have to make a choice from the odds available. The other feature is the Turbo Bet. It increases the speed of the card dealing. Players who find the default pace too slow or players who are not interested in following the community cards as they are dealt should activate the Turbo Bet.
Hold'em Showdown is offered in all Playtech online casinos. CasinoAdvisor recommends Casino Tropez, Omni Casino and Play United.
