Moneybookers to Become Skrill

Moneybookers is one of the leading electronic wallets and a popular payment option in the online casino industry. It is in the process of re-branding and will don a new avatar named Skrill. The philosophy is simple. According to Moneybookers everything changes and they say "We simply thought it was time".

Skrill is short for "skrilla", which is already a commonly used slang word for money or "dough". However, Moneybookers is endowing it with much more than that. Skrill will be a safe and innovative way for consumers to pay for their online goods. It will give them flexibility, choice, reliability, economy, convenience and peace of mind. There are big plans for Skrill but these changes will not happen overnight. In fact Moneybookers has scheduled the changeover for the end of 2011. However, the existing Moneybookers customers will be the first to upgrade to Skrill when it goes live.

Moneybookers has outlined some of the "massively enhanced payment facilities" that Skrill will offer. Consumers will be able to send payments to anyone without revealing their financial details. There will be no need to repeatedly enter card numbers, expiry dates and other endless details. Skrill will store these details in a secure manner without sharing them with anyone. Skrill will operate on the understanding that one size does not fit all. It will offer more than just a portfolio of products. There will be methodologies to integrate services or offer fully tailored solutions that will cater to the global stage. All this will be provided with full technical support, proven anti-fraud measures and reliable customer service. Like Moneybookers Skrill will come with the protection of United Kingdom and European Union law and regulation from the Financial Services Authority.

Juian Artope, Moneybookers' head of marketing and public relations, spoke about the re-branding in an interview to eGaming Review. He said, "We felt we needed a new name to better characterize the business, as well as differentiate ourselves in a crowded marketplace and that name is Skrill. It's short, easy-to-use and translates well internationally. Customers and merchants alike have all told us how much they like it during our extensive research and consultation phase." The re-branding is being done under the guidance of the renowned agency The Brand Union, which has worked with the likes of Audi, Vodafone, Barclays, the Premier League and Unilever.

Martin Ott, co-CEO of the new Skrill Holdings, suggests that the company wants to become a verb. He said, "In the same way people 'Google' something or 'Skype' their friends, they can soon 'Skrill' their friends and family money and will use 'Skrill' to pay whenever they shop online."
