Microgaming Announces New Branded Slots Online

The latest announcement from Microgaming makes it clear that for the leading online casino developers branded slots is the way ahead. Microgaming pioneered branded slots with the release of Tomb Raider. But it has been choosy since then, going only for the best tie-ups.

Through its latest press advisory, Microgaming has announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with DC Entertainment. DC Entertainment is the holding company that owns DC Comics, which is one of the most popular publishers of super hero comic books. Their flagship super hero Batman is the subject of this agreement. The agreement will enable Microgaming to create a series of state-of-the-art graphic rich video slots based on specific Batman movies.

The two DC Entertainment movies cited in the agreement are The Dark Night and The Dark Night Rises. Microgaming will develop online video slot games using animation material, themes and characters from these motion pictures. The Dark Knight was released worldwide in 2008 and The Dark Night Rises has been slated as this summer's must-see blockbuster. It will be released on July 20 and will star Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne alias Batman. The video slot game based on The Dark Night will be released during the summer of 2012, probably in unison with the release of The Dark Night Rises movie. The Dark Knight Rises online slot game will be launched in 2013.

The Microgaming press advisory provides some background information on the Batman brand. The DC Comics character Batman was first seen back in 1939, and since then has become "a globally recognized icon". Today, Batman is featured in 15 monthly comic books from DC Comics, which are translated in 30 different languages and distributed in over 60 countries to millions of fans. The Dark Knight film was the third highest grossing film of all time in the US with over $500 million in domestic box office takings, and over $1 billion worldwide.

Roger Raatgever, Chief Executive Officer of Microgaming, said, "The Batman films are one of the most famous film series in the world, with Batman's logo internationally recognized." He added that it was an achievement for Microgaming to supply online gaming software based on such a major and popular franchise. The Microgaming market-leading technology will ensure that the online slot games developed for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises do justice to the popularity of this brand.

With this announcement Microgaming has added to its list of expectations. Only the first part of The Lord of the Rings has been released so far.
