Makeover of Online Casino Slots Games

Online gaming technology is constantly improving and this is best reflected in the development of online slot games. The changes in graphics and audio visual effects have made online slot games much more appealing. Software developers also keep on introducing new gaming features so as to stay ahead of the competition. What this leads to is players gradually giving up the older slot games and picking up the ones released more recently. However, there are certain slot games that have acquired considerable brand value and software developers do not want to lose out on this value. At the same time as far as technology and features go these slot games cannot compete with the current lot. The solution that has been found to this dilemma is the makeover of the older games retaining their brand value by presenting them with the newer technology and features.

The makeover of Captain's Treasure from the software provider Playtech is a text book case of how the makeovers are done. The new avatar of this slot game is known as Captain's Treasure Pro. Pirate themed slots have always been popular because there is a likeness in slots players searching for jackpots and pirates searching for treasure. Therefore Captain's Treasure was popular. Over time other software providers kept on introducing pirate themed slots, which began to wean traffic away from Captain's Treasure because of their technological and gaming superiority. In the middle of 2009 Playtech introduced Buccaneer's Bounty. The graphics and animations were so good that Captain's Treasure stood out like a sore thumb. In order to maintain its presence in this sector, Playtech decided to release an improved version of Captain's Treasure.

The connection between Captain's Treasure and Captain's Treasure Pro goes beyond the name and the theme. Both versions have the Pirate Captain and the Treasure Chest as symbols and a likeness between the old and new has been maintained. Thereafter the makeover takes over. Captain's Treasure Pro is a 20 payline slot as compared to the 9 paylines in the older version. The thematic symbols in Captain's Treasure are flat 2D graphics, whereas in Captain's Treasure Pro the symbols are in photographic 3D form. The high value card symbols have also been given a modern styling in the newer version.

The main difference is apparent in the animation of symbols when they appear in winning combinations. In Captain's Treasure the sole animation is the Captain giving the thumbs up sign. The audio of the reels spinning is very harsh and the win sound is that of coins falling in the cash box in the style of the old land based mechanical slots. Captain's Treasure Pro has fantastic animations. The cannon recoils after firing, the captain steers the ship from the wheel and the ship rocks and rolls on the ocean. The audio is not strident but in keeping with the modern trends.

The biggest drawback with Captain's Treasure is that it has no bonus features at all. It has the Dollar Ball progressive jackpot but requires an additional wager and is not that popular. On the other hand Captain's Treasure Pro is feature rich, at least in comparison. It has a free spins bonus round with a mystery scatter symbol that adds an innovative touch to this round. It also has a gamble game in which players can try to double their payouts.

Other examples of online slots makeovers are Diamond Valley to Diamond Valley Pro, Buccaneer's Bounty to a new slot with the same name and Life's a Beach to Beach Babes. The latest and highly publicized makeover is Microgaming's Thunderstruck to Thunderstruck II.

I beleive that the approach that online casino software makers have with making their existing games better but keeping the old ones around is definitely the right approach.

When online casino software companies start re-doing games it's a good sign that these games are really popular with a big percentage of the player base of those who actually indulge in playing at online casinos.
