Four cards out of thirteen in a suit have a value of 10 in blackjack. Hence you are more likely to see the dealer’s face-up card having a value of 10 more often than any other value. Also, the dealer’s position is the strongest when the face-up card has a value of 10. Hence you must know what your best options under this situation are. You are like a cornered beast and there is fortunately not much complexity involved in your choices.

Vegas Strip Blackjack is the most popular online blackjack variant. The optimum blackjack strategy for the dealer’s face-up card having a value of 10 is being explained for this variant. The first action on the table is that the dealer will offer you insurance against his having a blackjack. It is an offer that you must always refuse. Next the dealer will check for blackjack by peeking at his hole or face-down card. If it is an ace then the dealer has a blackjack and will immediately win. The only exception is that if the player is also dealt a blackjack then the bet will push.

The ball is now in your court. Keep in mind that the dealer will stand on all 17 and the blackjack strategy described below factors that in. To put it simply you must hit on all hand values except those specifically excluded. The player hand values are described under three sections and each one will be taken up in turn.

If the player has a hard total he will hit on all hand values, except 17 and above. In the latter case the player will stand. There are two special cases. Some online casinos allow players to surrender by forfeiting half the wager. If the player has a hand value of 15 or 16 he is as good as a dead duck. In this case it is better to cut losses and surrender. The player becomes very strong on a dealt hand value of 11. He should then double.

If the player has a soft hand then he hits on all values of 18 or less and stands on all values of 19 or more. In a soft hand there is a possibility of reducing the value of an ace from 11 to 1 and therefore the player can be more aggressive.

If the player has two cards of the same rank in the dealt cards, he splits only on 8s and aces. He stands on a pair of 9s and hits on all other pairs.
